Some cool ways to develop your character

I've been playing the ES series for a long time and have loved role-playing games of all types for over 30 years. So, when I play Skyrim I like to develop my PC with a history, personality and other things to make that playthru unique. I want to share a few things because they could make your next PC someone truly immersive.

First, I my PC is always randomly chosen. I use a random number generator app to decide what race and sex I will play. For instance, a 1 would be Argonian, a 2 would be a Bosmer and so on up to 10. Then if the next generated number comes up with an even number, the PC will be female, odd will be male.

I then use an Android app called RPG Generator, an app normally used for D&D and other table RPG's, and it randomly assigns a personality and alignment (good, neutral, evil, lawful, chaotic) to the PC, as well as a personality, interests, family history, and other details to make the PC more in-depth. While I'm playing, I keep all these factors in mind in everything it does. I also use the mod, Take Notes, to record these things because it helps flesh out my PC's journal entries as I write them during play.

I use Alternative Start Live Another Life, but before I choose my start, I use the mod Character Creation Overhaul to randomly determine my PC's class, and major and minor skills. This allows the same structured flexibility as Oblivion when it comes to classes, including having a customized class.

When the class and specializations are set, I choose a random beginning for my character. I do have to watch that the beginning chosen matches with my PC's class and character. If it doesn't I might go back and try again , or even choose myself.

Then, when the PC is set in Skyrim, I already have all these elements to pull from in order to truly role-play a character. Everything from companions, quests, behaviors, and skills all fall in line with what this PC is.

I also do a couple things while playing that make things interesting. First, I do not choose perks from skills that are not part of the PC"s major or minor skills chosen in the beginning. So that means only these 6 skills have perks for me to choose from, the rest are ignored. That adds to the flavor of the PC.

Another thing is that whenever a bandit or other NPC is killed, I use the random number generator again before I take their weapon and/or armor. Since there is no weapon or armor degradation in Skyrim like older ES games, I use this to tell me if the equipment on a bandit is ether broken/useless or if the PC can take it to sell. This makes it so that the PC does not get too rich, too fast. It would be great if there was a mod that would randomly determine if a bandit's equipment had been broken or made unusable during combat, but this suffices for now. I also miss repairing my PC's equipment. I wish Bethesda would have brought that back instead of giving us a redundant survival mod.

I'm sure this all seems like a lot of work, but it keeps the game even fresher and if you love role-playing, some of these things might be a rewarding experience.
