Been years since I've played, all mods outdated... help!

I used to be really into Skyrim... but then Fo4 happened. Now that that addiction has subsided, I'm ready for more Skyrim!

Problem is, I've since reinstalled my system and need to reload all my mods.

Once I downloaded the NMM and pointed it to my mods folder I began to see problems.

First, it seems many of the mods I used are no longer supported... some it's been years. So I'm not sure if there are better alternatives.

Second, it seems many mods I used now are all-inclusive packs of mods... which makes reinstalling them a real bear. Not sure what to activate, what to leave off... so confusing.

I love immersion and want anything that makes the game look or act more realistic. Flora, textures, realistic animals, more NPCs in towns, sounds, better lighting, etc.

Is there a definitive list of mods for such things?

I used to use the Boss organizer to sort my load order. Is this still what to use?

Just so lost and not sure where to start! Installing the mods I had before just seem to make them conflict with each other.

I don't know of any "definitive" list , as it's all really up to personal preference

but there are some mod lists around , some with proper installation instructions (this is an example of one , but you can find others via Google https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/76373 )

the load order tool is LOOT , and I'm not so sure regarding your other problems (all inclusive packs of mods? what exactly does that mean? can you link an example?)

If you have any specific questions , feel free to ask

but we need more information (specific mods etc)

the Ruffled Feather is a collection of mods of a single modder , who has removed all his mods from the Nexus

so it's a collection of his mods , and it has a FOMOD installer , so as long as you know which mods you are going to use , you should easily be able to install it properly

but unless a mod author has decided to merge all his\hers mods into a single installer , you will find that most mods haven't really changed so much over the years (they may have been updated , but in terms of structure and installation they are usually almost identical)
