I tried to download the texture mod "Noble Skyrim" but the file isn't a proper file that can be entered and explored and such. It's just some kind of file that when opened brings up some sort of command thingy with a black background. I think this may be because of 7.zip but I don't really know :/ Please help

which file have you downloaded? what is the file format of the file you've downloaded? what is the expected file size on the mod page , and what is the file size for the downloaded file?

I don't know why you would get a CMD screen , as the files are archives , not bat files (or anything of that sort) , but I don't use 7z for managing archives (I use Winrar usually)

if the file sizes match , try opening it with another program (like Winzip or Winrar) , and see if it works now

if not , maybe your download was somehow corrupted (although it would probably have a different file size in that case) . if that is the case , try downloading again

because the files are large (the smallest being around 1GB) , there is a high chance your download was stopped prematurely for some reason , and so the file isn't a complete archive

but please do test these things , and report back so that we can continue helping

7-Zip actually manages more file formats than WinRar, and it wouldn't cause the problems the OP is seeing. I agree that he shouldn't be getting a command prompt, which is what the problem sounds like. I can't find "Noble Skyrim" on Nexus, but perhaps my search filters are hiding it, so a link to the file would be helpful.

EDIT: Just as a note, the file downloaded with NMM/Vortex and the file downloaded manually are the same file. The only difference is the way the file is downloaded. So, no matter which download method you use, the file will always be a .zip, .rar, etc.

I believe the mod in question is this one https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/45807?tab=files

at least , that's the mod I found by searching the name , and it fits the type of mod mentioned , so I suspect it's the correct mod

not that I suspect the problem is with the mod itself , nor do I think downloading a 1GB or more file will really help me test this in a timely manner (it would take quite a while , and it doesn't guarantee replicating the issue)

The OP is correct that you cannot open the files with the usual tools. Since it is a texture replacer with the .dds file format, you need a tool that can manipulate texture files like GIMP or 3DS.

I'm pretty sure he meant that the archive he has downloaded can't be opened , not the contents of the archive (although you are absolutely correct that texture files require an appropriate program to open)

I just went to my Skyrim Mods folder, thought I had the mod, it is "A.NSM-Full Pack_v 5.3.0" in a 7z format. I had no problem extracting the file to desktop with 7z although it took some time as it is a huge file.

I downloaded this file on December 30th 2017 so I do not know if there is an updated version out there.

If you tried to download this file with a mod manager you might have run into problems. I have found it is a good idea to download very large files like this manually and then download them to your mod manager. Damn thing is 2,423,786 kb; too lazy to convert that.

You can open the file and take the texture files all the way down to .dds files.
