Skyrim SE - Can't get SKSE Running

Okay,

The situation is that I had SKSE running in the past 5 months and had to reinstall windows 10 due to some shoddy updates. What I can't remember is How did I get it running back then -_- .

The part that I am stuck on with the installer is "The installer was unable to determine your Skyrim install directory. Please set the install directory to the folder containing TESV.exe"

The issue with this is that the only two files that are .exe within steam "SkyrimSE.exe" and SkyrimSELauncher.exe".

I am going to try to manually input the path as it is installed into the steam/steamapps/common/Skyrim Special Edition to see if it will work.

On a side-note, I do have steam located out of the programs files as I love to mod and really didn't want to meddle with clicking through the mess that win10 created with their updates.

- The Version of Skyrim SE that I have is: 1.5.39

- SKSE installer: current build 1.7.3

I did try to manually install without the installer as well and still no dice.

- Manual install: Current SE build 2.0.7 (Runtime 1.5.39)

I tried to manually install and still failed whilst making sure that the scripts folder was placed correctly into the Data Folder with no luck.

Again, I tried to manually install and ended up removing all SKSE files as it would not let the game open. After removing all the files the game was then able to open again, but removed the whole point of using SKSE.

My purpose of using SKSE is so I can bypass steam and for a few mods that require it.

Any and all comments or suggestions are welcomed and I will edit this post in the case that I figure something out on my end.

Thank you for reading!

Okay everyone, I got it working and believe the reason I couldn't get it running earlier was one of the reasons I had reinstalled windows 10.

I would say that it had to be some sort of mod I was using via lovers lab. But it started up and used the command GetSKSEVersion and everything checks out!

It may have been because my hard drive was bogged with lots work related files and the fact I am playing on a laptop... God I wish I had a PC right about now lol.

Anyway, SKSE is working and the resolution for me was to re-roll windows 10 and wipe the hard drive.

Are you sure?

because from the versions you listed you are attempting to install "oldrim" SKSE (1.7.3) on Special Edition (which needs SKSE64 2.0.7).

http://skse.silverlock.org/

That is bound to cause problems - and if it works at all I'll be very surprised to say the least...

In general if you have a hard time with the SKSE installer, just install it manually. It's literally just a handful of files that need to be moved in the correct places - that's all. Gopher on youtube (and many others I'm sure) have detailed video guides on how to do this step-by-step. It's not complicated at all really.

Glad you got it working, but I'd recommend you doublecheck you have the right SKSE version to be sure. You probably have because I'm sure non-64 bit version would not work at all, so I'm assuming your first post is just mistaken or not updated.

I do not know about re-rolling Windows 10 ( I would not do that ) but my SKSE is working like a charm ... however, I installed manually, created a shortcut to my desktop and I am launching it by clicking on that icon .... if you are trying to launch it from Vortex, it is not working and I do not know why but I do not care since again, I am able to launch it from my icon sitting in my desktop. That's it !!

All I know is that you need skse64...like I didn't read that you needed it, so I was trying skse, and it was not working, so I just said FUKIT, and played without SKSE64 or SKSE, and it was like a retarded game for over a year...than I got skse64 on, and my game is SUPERB...

For me, i tryed to install SKSE like 20 time today and its dosent work at all, it keep telling me that my version of Skyrim had an update and that i need them to fix their SKSE.

It is telling the truth. SSE was updated a day or two ago and SKS64 hasn't been updated yet to correspond. Just wait a few days and check skse.silverlock.org occasionally to see if it has been updated. You need to refresh the page in your browser because it gets cached and doesn't automatically update.
