Game Believes Keyboard is Controller with NVSE & 4GB

Recommended Posts

I'm pretty new to modding and started trying things out with New Vegas. I'm new to PC gaming in general and still vastly prefer controllers to keyboard and mouse, and I have been using a controller for vanilla New Vegas. Once I started adding in mods, things mostly went smoothly. A few didn't have controller support, but it was mostly fine. However, the 4GB patch linked on the NVSE site did not seem to have controller support. Whenever I have it plugged in, it detects it, even tells me I have plugged in or not plugged in a controller if I toy with it while it's running. Most of my mods were small, so I didn't really need it and stopped using it, deleting its exe and associated dll and just using NVSE. That worked fine for a while, but I wanted to try again. This time I used the current patcher on the nexus, and again no luck, so I was going to get rid of it again. That's where the weird bit starts. Now, launching NVSE does the same thing where it knows a controller is plugged in but only acknowledges the keyboard. I can't seem to get it to work anymore. A regular launcher start will still work fine. I'm fine if I can't get 4GB and my controller to play nice (though I would certainly like them to), but I really need NVSE to work with my controller again. Any advice?

The 4GB Patcher doesn't directly support a game controller, but then it has no reason to do so. It's merely setting a flag on the relevant executables that tells Windows they can use more than 2GB of system RAM. Should have no effect on your controller. Look elsewhere for your problem or provide much more (repeatable) detail to convince us it's actually the source of the problem.

Please see the 'Issue: Mouse and/or keyboard don't work with a game controller installed' entry under 'Solutions to Control problems' section in the wiki "Fallout NV Mod Conflict Troubleshooting" guide.
