Installing vortex question

It seems the installer doesn't give you an option of where to install it and according to Golphers vid Vortex must be in the same drive as your game. I'm not sure what that means. Must Vortex be on the same drive as Skyrims exe? Can you have Vortex's exe on C and your downloaded but not installed mods on D? Must I uninstall Skyrim and reinstall on D if I want Vortex there? Sorry for the noob questions but I've never had a computer with 2 drives before and it took me a while just to figure out how to move my Documents, ect to D.

I've been having trouble with MO not letting me log in so I would like to try changing to vortex if I can figure it out.

It doesn't matter where Vortex is installed. Just leave it at the default c:\Program Files.

What DOES matter is the "Install Path" which you can set on Vortex' settings page, sub page "Mods" (for each game). This must be on the same drive as the game.

That's what I was hoping to avoid. I wanted to save space on my c drive and a bunch of mods for just one game plus the original game and various helper programs like blender takes a chunk out of it. If I had several modded games it could get used up quickly. It would help if just the download folder could be kept somewhere else as that's just a place to store them before installing them. If I did a manual download of all my mods and installed from the desktop would the download folder be empty?

Golphers youtube showed him changing the install path to his D drive. Did he do something wrong?

Vortex itself doesn't use up any noticeable disk space. The place where you store the archives and where the mods are installed, is where you need the disk space. So there shouldn't be any problem for you, if you set these directories to the disks with enough space.

Don't confuse "Install path" (the setting inside of Vortex) with the path you install Vortex itself to (which is C:\Program Files and cannot be changed unless you use a special installer).

Only the "Install path" you set for each game should (and has to) be on the same drive as the game. It's also the place where the mods are stored, so you need some space there.

So Vortex on C installed there automatically.

Install Skyrim on D\ Games \ Steam \ Steam apps \ skyrim.

Add folders to D for Skyrim \ Downloads and Skyrim \ Mods.

In Vortex set directory paths to Skyrim, Downloads and Mods on the D drive.

I recently installed Vortex and Skyrim Special Editon through steam. I thought i did everything correctly but my mods dont load in game. The mods say enabled but the is nothing for plugins other than Dawnguard.esm, Dragonborn.esm, Hearthfires.esm, Skyrim.esm, and Update.esm.

My skyrim is under D:/ SteamLibrary / steamapps / common / Skyrim Speacial Edition

My vortex is under D:/ vortex mods / skyrimse

I was trying do download Bijn NPCs and Unoffical Skyrim Legendary Edition Patch

What did i do wrong?

This thread is 3 years old, start your own.

You have Vortex installed to D:\Vortex Mods\ SkyrimSE?

Also, you said you have Skyrim Special Edition, then go on to say that You're trying to load SKyrim LEGENDARY Edition Patch

You're not installing the correct game versions of the mods.

There's Skyrim SE (Special Edition) and the OLD version of SKyrim, Skyrim Legendary Edition (LE)

You're downloading mods for Skyrim LE instead of Skyrim SE
