impossible to copy game setup to another computer!

Hey all,

Is there a way to copy a COMPLETE setup of vortex and say fallout 4 to another computer as I often like to sync the game from one PC to another.

With MO it was simple as it didnt do any symlinks and copying through the network copies actual files to the game.

Anyone here able to explain best way to have a 1:1 synced copy of vortex and the game fallout4 on 2 PCs?

Unless you have customised your mod/download directory you only have to synchronise the %APPDATA%/vortex directory, you don't have to synchronise the game directory at all.

Ideally you do a purge on the target system before you synchronise, then deploy manually afterwards. If you don't purge there is a good chance you will get a huge "External Changes" dialog where you then have to select undo on everything.

Why create a VFS system when Windows has one built-in and is what Vortex currently uses. This has the added advantage of not needing Vortex running to play the game and being 100% compatible with any Windows app.

welp, actually, i'm currently in the same boat (new windows install on another partition) and i have customized both. can't figure out how to get my mod rules back, since if i overwrite %appdata%/vortex folder with the old one, i have path issues - if i fix them my mod rules are gone.

are paths and mod rules stored separately? which files correspond to which?

EDIT: seems it's all stored in state.v2

ok i managed to work around: had to restore %appdata%/vortex folder from backup and then symlink the new installation location back to the old one to fool VO. Proceeded to change paths in the application one by one, juggling around folder names for the 'mods' folder cause it has to be empty apparently.

Recently I transferred two Vortex-managed games (Fallout 4 and Skyrim SE) to a second gaming computer. I followed Tannin's instructions in an earlier post in this thread, and the transfer and installation were flawless.

I know that many people have had and are having genuine problems with Vortex. However, for whatever reason, I have had very few issues of any consequence with Vortex, and those few issues were owing to my own ignorance and not to Vortex.

Many thanks to all of you forum members who have contributed so much useful information about Vortex. You have become my "instruction manual" and thus made my Vortex experience a very happy one.

i'm genuinely curious whether you have used a custom install / mod / download / game location

No, I did not. I used the default settings in Vortex. I did so because custom settings apparently can become very troublesome.

I'm now having issues when vortex is updated

It deleted all my mods and leaves game with symlinks inside data.

It's honestly the 4th time I've had to start over with vortex.

Sadly sadly mo is cleaner.. it's too bad the latest version still doesn't work with mcm.its gotta be installed manually..

BTW. VFS? Dunno what the post above was. On about? The VFS I am speaking of was a virtual folder. Where it actually didn't touch the data folder AT ALL! It's like mo magically on every launch of the game merged fo4 data and it's own data folder to work.

It's honestly the most beautiful thing I've seen in PC for a long time.

The VFS 64bit needs work I think. As the 32b one works flawlessly.

Seriously love what MO does!
