DAO Black screen at the Cousland beginning

Hi guys. I have a problem..

After a long time I installed the game and some mods.. I had mods before too, but I never had a problem. Now i have a problem that, when i launch game, everything is ok, I can easily create a character, but when i start the game, when the story begins, i can hear storyteller (narrator), i see subtitles, but all is in black screen..No image...This happens only when i start playing as Cousland. When i start playind as Mage ro Dwarf everything is ok.. I tried to delete mods, one by one, to find out which mode is problematic, but no change so I did not find the answer..where the problem might be?

Well, maybe the mods are incompatible and/or broke the game, same prob with a clean install of dao?

Would also check the mod pages for patches and/or compatibility.

 

 

Hmm, anything else, well Is everything up2date, like directx(from the game folder), gpu driver, the game, windows?

Possible gpu driver related, would try it. Current version and older one.

*if u wanna install older drivers, download whql not beta drivers.

 

Had a similar problem, caused by an windows update, black screen in few "older" games, had to reinstall the nvidia driver.

 

Or maybe u need to downgrade the game version for mods.

 

Also worth a try, changing the settings.

Like changing the resolution, for some reason u could fix dao black screens with changing the resolution to the highest.

Different directx modes (if dao has different)

Delete the ini and let dao create a new one.

 

Any background overclocking apps like msi afterburner or so?

I have a new laptop and i keep all updated..I regularly check it and I do not think it's a problem with the drivers because i have black screen or crash game only if i start game like a Cousland noble.. If i start like a dwarf or mage, the game works. downgrade the game version is good idea i guess, i can try it. About resolution i have highest resolution.. so.. i dont know.. No MSI afterburner no just dragon center and MSI True color..maybe is really problem with mods compatibility ......

I have solved a mystery, maybe someone will help in the future :laugh:

if you want to use mods Improved atmosphere + Of Ferelden, you can not use other mods which contain any morphs changes.. For example RDP Alistar, Electrifys Wynne v1 etc etc..it's not even good to use mods that can change for example lighting and other graphic things..

So some conflicts with mods caused the prob, but glad to hear that it works now and u can enjoy da:o :thumbsup:

I don't know if you ever figured this out or not but I just discovered the same issue and resolved it by getting rid of the JB3 texture packs.

I've had the same issue for ages now, I don't even have improved atmosphere or JB3 textures installed and it still gives me the black f*#@ing screen. I've spent hours trying different methods and nothing works.

PS - it's nothing to do with my system, it can play gta 5 on max graphics i know it can easily handle DA Origins lol.

I don't know if you ever figured this out or not but I just discovered the same issue and resolved it by getting rid of the JB3 texture packs.

I believe any crash at this start comes from conflicting replacers. For example, I had Adonnay's weapon replacer installed, which was causing many items to have missing textures in Castle Cousland. Once removed, I was able to get past the cutscene.

 

*Short-term strange fix - another person had similar problems, even if you cannot find where the conflict is, you can often just press "escape" a bunch at game start to get past the Human Noble cutscene, and drops you right in the first sentence response to Arl Eamon. You really have to press escape nonstop for this to work though. I advise instead finding the conflicting mods/files and removing one of them.
