Which NPC/Character mods?

I'm trying to think of some mods to use specifically for characters and npcs. I would like it to be lore friendly so like not a lot of makeup or super shiney hair. And another think which I don't know if y'all can help but it occurs to me that everyone is wearing the same thing so if y'all knew of a way that would not replace outfits but instead add outfits for npcs cause with replacers npcs will just wear the same replaced thing. Thanks for anything you know.

I have a strong computer. And body replacers/textures are fine I just want to make Skyrim more immersive like

Game of Thrones but Elder Scrolls. Make it a believable world

Well, Divine People Celestial overhaul is nice, if you're wanting UNP. There is also a texture from the same author called Divine Skins and Bodies, it covers both female and male.

Decide what body you want prior to picking armors, as we still have a divide between UNP types and CBBE in the mods offered.

 

If you want variety auto generated on NPCs you might want to look at Book of UUNP which has a lot of options files and a huge amount of variety. LE and SE. In addition this mod will put your Hold Guards in a variety of distinctive Hold colors and styles. It has an optional ESP that will remove a lot of the more skimpy versions.

Divine Elegance Store has a lot of armors for player use, but does not put them as leveled list choices for NPCs. Also for LE and SE.

 

I use UNP bodies and for textures I use Women of Skyrim by zzJay and Unsladd Keizaal by evgirunslaad https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/90982, both of these are not overboard on texture file sizes and look natural.

 

For hair I use KS Hair with Salt and Wind retexture and Azar's Ponytails. https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/79735/

 

For overall face improvement I use Decent Women..it doesn't glamorize and leaves a range of "pretty to kinda homely" without a performance hit.

For a bit extra I use The Ordinary Women for Named NPCs. It is also not a huge performance hit and treats the Older NPC women very nicely, they show age without being desiccated. https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/70547/

 

Consider using a simple Custom Race mod for your Character. I use Epic Elves by zzJay. It allows me to use both a different bodyslide mesh and different Textures on my Char instead of the ones I've used for NPCs. I can use higher Rez textures on a single char without having them on every NPC.

 

As for the Divine People mods, I won't have a Tarshana mod on my drive after the drama bombs and legal threats she threw around the mod community.

I presume we are talking about Skyrim SE. It seems that CBBE system plays dominant role in comparison to UNP. Although keep in mind that both CBBE and UNP can use Bodyslide and they are both "system" for body mesh. They do not have a specific shape because they both let you customize the body mesh using Bodyslide. Of course, both have their own default body mesh and they are only relevant when you convert outfits as the default body serves as baseline. But other than that, it is safe to say you can use UNP to create a "CBBE looking body", and CBBE to create a "UNP looking body".

However, same cannot be said about mixing textures. They will not crash your game but definitely will look horrible. So picking a body system to go with means you are picking what mods are made specific to a system. Like UNP nude skin and Outfit will not work with CBBE body mesh. Personally I recommend CBBE. Many mods support CBBE now because it is way more mainstream.
