Quick question on editing follower mods

Recommended Posts

I am trying to edit Recorder https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/4718

Nothing super fancy, just reduce her weight to 30 from 100, lower her skin tint (so she doesn't light up as a hot rod under the sun with her super pale skin) and her height. I am trying with both TES5Edit and CK.

- Changed weight from 100 to 30. Recorder stays at 100.

- Changed height from 1 to .9 Recorder takes it, at 90% scale

- Changed skin tint from 246,235,235 to 196,185,185. Body skin tint is changed, face tint remains exactly the same as before = neck seam.

What I haven't done: Export Facegen via CK. I wonder if it will mess up her face and she doesn't look like Recorder anymore?

Why the weight doesn't change even I edited the .esp? But her scale changed.

FYI: I use LazyBodyEdit mod to view and change NPC weight and scale. I prefer not to force change scale via this mod if I can do it at .esp level.

If you already seen the NPC in game changes to the NPC via esp won't show up until you make a new game or reset the npc.

What is the best way to reset an NPC?

The bigger problem at hand is that it fails to change the face tint. Body can change skin tint, face remains exactly the same. Neck seam :(

What is the best way to reset an NPC?

Open the console. Select the NPC in question. Type "disable". Don't mopve your mouse. Type "enable". Close the console. Helps most of the time. If this doesn't work, you can use the "recycleactor" command. Beware: This might or might not break your savegame... So probably only use this for testing. The "disable/enable" method is safe - at least from my experience.

The bigger problem at hand is that it fails to change the face tint. Body can change skin tint, face remains exactly the same. Neck seam

Changing skin color the way you did won't work. In fact, there's no easy way to change the skin color of an already existing custom follower.

The reason is the way most followers are created: Most mod authors work off a face preset they created in Racemenu or ECE. They choose a skin color and this color gets baked into the facetint texture..Then a basic head mesh is exported via the CK. This CK export is replaced by the Racemenu/ECE face with "nifmerge", then the whole head mesh is put together in "Nifskope". Basically this means, that the face color comes from the facetint texture. Therefore it is practically "set" and can't be changed any more. Afterwards, the skin color of the body is adjusted to the head color (You simply note, what color was used for the head and choose the exact same color in the CK for the body skin).

It is possible to make adjustments, but for this you'd need the original head meshes - which you don't have. Maybe some experts on Racemenu or ECE know a way to turn a follower into a preset again. But I never did that.

So, best "solution" woudl be to revert the skin color to it's original value.

I am afraid you hit all the "right" answers too. There is no way I am going to do this with what I have.

In regard to disable/enable, it SHOULD work. But I tried it on Recorder after change her weight from 100 to 30. Her face turned completely hideous (bloated up with a huge cheek). 3 seconds later game CTD. I am going to have to settle with using a darker skin. Or just edit myself in Photoshop. I hope both hands, feet, body, and head texture would blend seamlessly in game. I know this is not always the case. Once in FO4 I darkened the body and hand. Both added a black layer with 20% alpha ... I think that would be consistent enough, but the wrist seam turned out to be quite obvious.

I set Overbright Dampening value to max on ENB and move on I guess. Nice try, but we aren't meant to get everything we want :) But I really appreciate you guys taking the time to educate me.
