oldschool Resting / Camping

Coming from "ye olden days" of video games I allready turned my skyrim to a game featuring a more oldschool type of gameplay. However as I was looking for a camping mod, they allways turned out suboptimal... Some are rich in content, featuring dozens of different tents, campsites and options, others are too simplistic as they´re just giving you a conjuration ablility, to cast a bedroll into existence.

Beeing rather inexperienced with the creation kit, I figured I share my thoughts. And maybe someone out there is interested in creating such a mod...

So the barebones design I have in mind is:

you buy a single "supply" item at a general good store (or inn... maybe?)

the supllies, once used, create a simple campsite (maybe consisting of a small tent and a campfire) which allows the player to sleep and cook food.

Each activator can be used only one single time, (which would require a script to delete the activator afterwards).

In consequence the player has to refill his supplies in the towns and cities and has to treat the camp not as a home, but as a short-term camp.

The now useless camp would then be left for despawn.

Disposable camping gear? I don't know what olden days you are from, but neither were video game history and real world history that people treat inventories like disposable like in James Bond movies: even his super cool cars are disposable. If anything, medieval people tend to reuse everything due to their lack of mass production. A camp, as you describe, consists of a tent and some kind of campfire. The tent is rather bulky even in today's standard of highly compact and foldable light weight aluminum tent poles, I really do not want to carry one tent for each night I am staying out. Skyrim doesn't have cell phone and an SUV to come pick me up whenever I feel like done with playing with the wilderness, so chances are people in Skyrim are bound to stay out for a good number of nights in the wild.

So you may consider rethinking your definition of supply. Firewood is heavy so you can't carry too many of those either. Campfire can be built with rocks and kindles through gathering. Tent needs to be carried around. So maybe you can consider the tent is to break once in a while, so is the bedroll. That is where your need to resupply is from.

Campfire mod already built an extremely amazing and stable campfire framework. Many mods used this framework to build all kind of wonderous things. So if you are going to build a brand new camping game mod, you should start with this framework to save you a lot of time.

Well in quite a lot of older games thats how it worked, in some way. To set camp in the wild you had to use 1 supply-thingy, which then was used up for this one night. Doing so refreshed the stats of all members of your party, healed them and so on...

I didnt focus on "realism"... You can easily carry dozens of swords, shields and loads of armor with you, so why not a few tents as well?

My idea was entirely focused on gameplay, and... you dont really have to set up camp every single night. Use it as a gameplay mechanic that enables the feature of getting the rested bonus and cooking some stews on the go.
