Flash Bang Bug

Hello, i have been enjoying some fallout new vegas lately. I'm currently about to finish lonesome road. I got to the part where ed-e zaps me and than flies away. So than there are those two deathclaws in my way so i try to shoot them with my sniper rifle, but it sways really badly which is strange since it was perfectly stable a few minutes ago! I look through my skills and stuff and i realise all of my combat related skills went to literal 0. I tried sleeping thinking it's just an effect that will last for a few hours becaue of something, but pretty much nothing helps. Is it because of the special grenade that decreases enemy's combat effectivity? Is there a fix for it? I don't really have spare saves so i'm in a pretty bad situation. I tried fixing it with YUP, but i'm not sure if you have to start a new save to make it work or is there a diffrent way to fix the bug?

Edit: Please see the 'Issue: Flash Bang Bug (Combat skills reduced to zero)' entry in the "Miscellaneous" section in the wiki "Fallout NV Mod Conflict Troubleshooting" guide.

If you have used up most of the 1000 saves allowed, go back and delete some of the oldest ones or "quick saves". Be sure to turn off the "Steam sync save" feature as that will try to restore the files you delete from it's cloud server. But the game doesn't go by the filename count, it goes by the total number of actual files it finds. (My save game counter is up to 6370. I periodically go through and delete older "auto saves" and those in between important checkpoints to free up save slots.)

Try using "Fallout NV Cheat Terminal Redux" by gir489 to check and reset your skills. Or you can use the console command "RestoreAV" or if that fails, "ModAV". Other commands could cause worse problems.

Unfortunately none of these work.

We cross-posted. I edited my reply after posting a more complete explanation to the wiki and posted that change just after you replied (and I refreshed my screen).

However, if you are unable to restore by any of the methods described, then to the best of my knowledge there is no help for it except to revert to a prior save.

If you do find another solution, please do let us know.

Is it possible you could help me with this problem "live"? I'm not sure if i'm typing the commands wrong or don't understand the tutorial whatsoever. I tried using the cheat terminal, but when i level up, the skills which are supposed to be around 16 points have 100 points spent on them. The other commands mentioned in the tutorial don't really work either. All i get is that some kind of a line is missing. If you could contact me on steam or discord that would be great.

A live session only benefits you. Explaining the situation in a post helps others as well as guiding me in how to rework the wiki article to become more easily understood. The dynamic of a live session tends to lose that record. And when you have to put your explanations into writing, it forces you to think through the problem, which is part of the resolution process. So far your responses have been short and vague: "some kind of a line is missing" doesn't help me much. The implied "hurry up" time pressure of a live session doesn't improve that sort of detailed communication. I revise every post several times before (and after) I submit them to improve clarity of message. That gets lost in live sessions, but makes for better references in the future.

Give me an example of what you are attempting to enter for a console command? You do realize that you have to substitute the skill name for the "<ActorValue>" variable, etc., I presume? For instance:

"player.GetAVInfo EnergyWeapons" (without the quotes; to see how "EnergyWeapons" value is currently being calculated. Note the "period" between "player" and "GetAVInfo", and the space between "GetAVInfo" and "EnergyWeapons". They are essential syntax elements: separating "reference", "command", and "object". That is as simple as a console command can get.)

The "player." part is known as a "Reference-ID" or "Ref-ID". Most commands either require a "Ref-ID" to know what is being referenced by the command, or require a previous command like "prid" to have established that (implied) reference.

(If you get an console error, then it didn't like the syntax of the command as you typed it. Even though the Wiki doesn't indicate it, the most likely reason would be that the console required quotes around the "<ActorValue>", as in:

player.GetAVInfo "EnergyWeapons". But that is an alternative to try if the first statement doesn't work.)

See "The console, Or: How I learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Actor Value" for a more complete description of console commands.

This information should give you some idea as to how "EnergyWeapons" has been modified from it's base value. The "base value" should be the number of skill points you allocated to it (without any bonuses from Traits or Perks; or situational bonuses such as drugs).

Then you should use:

"player.RestoreAV EnergyWeapons 0" (without the quotes; to restore "EnergyWeapons" to it's pre-damaged value).

If that doesn't work, then whatever was done to the skill was "permanent". You then need to know what the "base value" was supposed to be. You can then either use the Cheat Terminal or the other console commands "ModAV" or "SetAV" to reset the "base value" of the skills.

The "Cheat Terminal" is not about "leveling up". It's about allocating a "pool of points" to different stats and skills. You use what you want. If you only want to give a skill 16 points, then that's all you give it. If you want to bump it up to 100, then you give it 100. The choice is yours. You are not forced to give it every (or any) point.

Hope this clarifies things.
