210 years after the 3Doomsdays the Wanderer wandered across the desolation of the Wastelands, teleporting from point to point across the world. Sometimes he visited the dome sheltered Havens of the Havenfolk, the big underground Enclaves of the Enclaven, the edges of the Doomlands of the abominations and other zones.

The Brotherhood of Steel had long arisen in the Lost Hills of California.

The Minutemen had arisen in New England as did the TriInstitute and the FreeRailroad.

The DCRegulators had arisen in the Wastelands of DC centered in the cracked dome covered WashingtonDC.

The Followers of the Apocalypse, Ceaser's Empire of animal-humanoids, the Children of Atom, the Eurasian Dynastic Dominion, the British Imperia, the United Civilised Citystates and others had arisen across the world. There were also the TechVaults and much else besides.

Mostly there were such as radghouls, radhumans, trogs, radbeasts, wraiths and other entities of the Wastelands while the Wastewaters had their own fair share of threats. Not all common entities were threatening and a few were only lightly so.

The Wanderer had tricks of rejuvenation-regeneration of devices, lifeforms and some interesting other things like replication, teleportation and telepathy along with others more exotic and less used. He used them, as much as he could, to turn sometimes dangerous radghouls into friendly, fixed up, radrhouls, doing similar things for other entities.

Yet his great secret was that there were four of him and soon to be more, some being female.

In the Wanderdomain radrhouls, robots, some androids, animals and plants thrived.

A Talon thugmerc fell backwards even as he fired his MZ11A4 Autocarbine. It was odd that a mere thugmerc would have such a good quality weapon instead of a special smooth bore pipegun, a tradegood type hunting rifle or some other such more common weapon of the Wastelands.

Jack cursed softly as the DCRegulator lay on his belly on a flat piece of wall amongst a whole lot of rubble. "There weapons, their armour, their other gear all too good for thugmercs though some attempt has been made to look like such. Most of all they fight like special forces veterans." Then he fired off his own MZ11A3, being annoyed that his enemy had an upgraded version of his own gun. Like his enemy he used a gun adapted to use cased cartridges that were not as effective as the caseless cartridges of the late 21st Century but far easier to obtain.

The fake thugmercs were retreating, were vanishing away underground somehow. Clearly they had no interest in taking on the patrol which was good for the heavily outnumbered, and outgunned, DCRegulators. Then they were gone and though some ammo had been used, Jack doubted that anybody had actually been hit let alone killed.

It was time to return, along the patrol route, to the settlement of RivetCity and the DCRegulator outpost there. Darkness was coming and with that came the swarms of radghouls waking up in the underground levels and swarming up to sate hunger or just driven by their crazy desire to collect items.

3.1[3]

Back at RivetCity there was some excitement, and agitation, because of the up coming elections to the RivetCity Leadership Council. Jack went straight to the DCRegulator outpost and gave a verbal report to the two DCRegulator Officers who were always stationed there along with three NCOs and five Constables. Captain Grundy was in charge, having had long experience as a DCRegulator, but Jack had more respect for the younger Lieutenant Sanshaw.

Sanshaw sat back in her artisan repaired office-chair as an electric deskfan oscilated to cool off all three at the desk. The air was humid with a coming storm and the device was effective because of it. "Five reliable reports have come to us about fake Talon thugmercs along with over 20 less reliable ones. Whispers have been crisscrossing DC for years about the Talon Mercenary Corporation developing special forces units with out getting rid of their more common thugmercs. So they went underground but there are no subway lines in the area that they did so."

Short stocky Grundy frowned. "I wouldn't put too much into such reports. We have too much to deal with, already, with out chasing after fairy stories. Still, I will pass on a message to DCHQ just to make sure." He stood, finished off his mug of instant coffee, and then departed quickly towards the communications room.

Sanshaw snorted. "Lets see what his message actually contains."

She picked up a telephone-intercom handset and spoke to somebody briefly. "Good to go! I want to know exactly what words Grundy transmits to DCHQ." Then she put the handset down. "It should not take long. If Grundy is a traitor than he will soon slip up."

Around them the massive battlecarrier was very stable in its river cradle. The USSS Couragious was but one of five large ships in cradles and many smaller ships, a submarine, and other vessels. The three jetties also had facilities along with the fortified shoreside area. The other large ships were a luxury ocean liner, a containership, a battleship and a research vessel.

More people came to live in RivetCity every day as a constant small stream with now and then a larger group showing up.

The rearch people were working on a wide range of projects to improve life in RivetCity.

The Leadership Council had proven to be unable to cope with the changes because of narrow mindedness of some of them and the smallness of the council. With the elections would come changes to how RivetCity was run.

When the telephone-intercome beeped the news was not as expected; Grundy had attempted to flee from RivetCity but he had been expertly assassinated before he could get far. Apart from suspicions that something had been taken from him, there were no clues to why he had been killed and who-what had done so.

4.1[4]

"It was all a museum once, a maritime museum. The ships are all veterans with amazing histories. The luxury liner was converted back to being a display luxury liner after it served as an American troopship for some years. The research ship was used to research toxic effects, pollution, on the oceans until political pressure had it retired early." Abraham Washington frowned softly. "The USSS Patriot is the battlecarrier, the USSS Stalwart is the battleship, the SS Delights is the luxury liner, the SS Samson is the containership and the USSS Scientific is the research ship. The smaller, but still large, submarine is the USSS Deepwaters being a stealth-attack boat. Strangely enough I found it harder to find data on the much bigger submarine being the Trident one."

Sanshaw nodded. "As grateful as I am for the information, what has this to do with the information that I wanted, professor?"

Abraham Washington raised his finger to quiet her. "Patience, please! People are mostly interested in the bigger vessels including that monstrous Trident submarine. They assume that the museum was just a museum in the Predoomsday times. It was not for there were plans to bring everything back into full functioning if they were needed. Smaller ships are two river ferries, fisherboats, a luxury cabincruiser, a patrolship, a light frigate and there are plenty of smaller boats in cradles including small submarines and hoverboats. Secondary interest is common in those but what about the secret exotics that very few know about, if we know about all of them, that is?"

They were sitting in his big, cluttered office of barely controlled chaos. Two of his aides, one a radhuman like himself and one a MrClerky, were busy at work. The radhuman was a beefy middle aged woman with high intelligence and much organisational skill; she had begun sorting out the mess of her new husband's records. She was Telesa Marigold Washington and the DCRegulators had strong respect for her.

Abraham Washington went on speaking. "One is a kind of amphibious vehicle designed to go through an ancient complex of water filled tunnels and, where those tunnels are part filled or empty, to otherwise travel on the surface of water or on dry tunnel floor. It did some missions exploring the ancient super alien tunnels but it is a labyrinth. Then it was withdrawn from active duty for highly classified reasons. Yet I have gained information, from somebody called MissFortune, that they found something most amazing, fascinating and dangerous way beneath the GrandMall where the strange Talon Mercenaries are appearing only to vanish downwards. MissFortune asked me to tell you all this and to give you this."

He took a datachip out of a shirt pocket and gave it to her. "20 gigabytes of supercompressed data equal to 670 gigabytes of uncompressed data. I got a copy of the same and my people, and I, are still going through the data menus. Another copy went to the research development people in the USSS Scientific and they are also still assessing it. I suggest your people start taking a look at it after uncompressing it. Oh, yes, MissFortune also gifted you some equipment-supplies including a supercomputer network-system capable of doing the uncompressing; it has four big databanks and other nice extras."

Then he passed to her a thick envelope stuck firmly to a smallish reusable lidbox. "Final gift. We got an envelope plus box, as did the RivetCity research people, but MissFortune told us each would be different."

Sanshaw nodded. "I have heard whispher stories of MissFortune, MrStranger, MrsMystery and MrWalker who are all supposed to have links with each other and with somebody called the Wanderer. Where did she meet you and get her gifts here? I take it those new looking databoxes, and supercomputer mainframe plus terminals, are from her."

He sighed. "It was like a very vidid dream experience and yet I can only sort of remember her facial features and her rather sexy skimpy outfit of a body that well fits that description. Don't get me wrong, my beautiful wife is more than enough for me, but I could see how she would distract many men and perhaps that is why she dresses as she does."

Sanshaw shrugged. "You would have to ask her about that! I will take the envelope, and package along with the datachip and send others to pick up the gifts. Everything has a price, not always of Wastelands currencies, and I suspect this is no different. I will return as soon as I can."

Then she departed quickly!

5.1[5]

A day later and the DCRegulators were at a briefing, in a multiple use chamber, except for three on other duties in the offices or in another part of RivetCity.

Sanshaw frowned softly. "The trident submarine is the late stage prototype USSS Trident, being the very first of that class of submarines built, thus the total lack of imagination with its name. It was sent into action, as an ICBM carrier-launcher, because of the lack of such vessels but later was replaced, in that role, by an improved model of a trident sub. It was then upgraded heavily to become a carrier-supporter of special infiltration forces. Then, officially, it was retired to the RivitCity Museum as an exhibit except that it was never opened to the public. This was despite constant promises, by the museum people, that it would be. All attempts to get into the subship, so far, have failed be they official or criminal attempts."

She shrugged. "Abraham Washington did not tell me those details so now they are added to my earlier report. As for the amphibious submarine, the great majority of RivetCityfolk do not even know it exists and I am sure they do not want to know what secrets might be hidden in this amazing settlement."

Jack nodded. "The amphibious vehicle only has the designation of the number SAV111222333 and no name. This indicates it was never meant to be publicly known. Like the trident, none have managed to get into it."

Jack then showed around the 'letter', holding it in the air. "Except that this letter holds some interesting, very useful, data including keycodes, details of tricks-traps set to deal with unwanted intruders and hidden caches of useful, sometimes exotic, resources. Sometimes secrets are hidden in the open or almost in the open."

All the higher rankers, in the outpost, had read the letter or at least what they thought was the 'letter'. There had been two versions of it being the one meant for most to read and a second version meant for only a very few to read such as Jack and Sanshaw. A short list of individuals had been designated never to show the second version that held more data than the first version, that extra data being extremely 'sensitive' in nature.

Jack passed around copies of the first version and soon all, but the guards, were reading one.

Sergeant Mantca spoke out, her voice showing doubt. "How can we trust this information? It sounds like nonsense to me even given the exotic nature of the postdoomsday world."

Mantca was on the list of people never to be shown the second, bigger, version of the letter. As it was her loyalty was already under suspicion and she was being investigated for possible links to the DCSyndicates and the TalonMercs if not also other more secretive and dangerous factions.

Jack did not even look at Mantca. "We shall see!"

The commander, of the outpost, completed reading the letter a second time. "A cache right here in the battlecarrier, a big one to be shared with other factions." Appleton was a more elderly, but tough, dark skinned woman of quiet toughness. She looked to Jack. "You, and Sanshaw, go to the cache."

She then turned to Mantca. "You are under arrest for..."

Mantca made a strange choking noise, and died, her head falling heavily onto the table top.

Appleton sighed. "That is the third one this month. I do not except anything useful to come of investigating her body, or her belongings, but we will do so anyway."

She was to turn out to be wrong!

5.2[6]

Even as the dead betrayer was being investigated, the battlecarrier cache was found to be a large amount of military guns, tools, other devices, spare parts and supplies for them. Much of it was meant for the battlecarrier itself and it sparked off an operation to bring back into function the battlecarrier's remote guided robotic turrets. These were not all weapon oriented there being ones for communications, threat detection and navigation but there were also the autocannon, missile, laser and autorocket turrets.

The problems arose when one Halsome wanted to misuse some of the cache goods in the name of making himself more popular with voters so he could join the enlarging Leadership Council. His crazy aspirations were soon shot down as the RivetCityfolk knew that upgrading RivetCity security-defence ability was most important. There was the approaching Enclavers from the north, increasing arrivals of tribal refugees from West Virginia way, pakraider raids on the east coast settlements inside the expanded DC and other growing internal threats such as supermutants, infiltrating synths and crazed gun toting ghoulers.

DCRegulators got some stuff to keep that were soon upgrading the DCRegulator Offices. Yet there had been hidden, in the cache, some items whose existence was hidden from the RivetCityfolk at first.

As for the dead sergeant, she was found to have had on her person items of importance.

One was a 3Dphoto of herself as a younger person standing in the front of the Craterside Supplies Surprises shop in the crater based settlement of Megaton.

Another was a note addressed to who ever searched her gear once she was dead; it spoke of her being part synth having been synth-cyborged against her will so as to infiltrate the DC area. The TriInstitute wanted to find artefacts of a wide range, caches of different kinds and also other special kinds. Mostly they seemed to want just information. As for invasion-occupation, that goal did not even come up.

Yet the strangest item she had on her was a softly glowing rainbow sphere, of translucent transcrystalic substance falsely fragile of appearance that was also gracefully beautiful; it was also so hard as to be indistructable. Jack held it briefly before he put into a very secure hidden pocket and, on impulse, went to the dead sergeant's body to place it on her chest.

Sergeant Mantca returned to life with a shimmering of rainbow energies flowing through-around her body. Sleepily she told of her experiences as an unwilling agent of the TriInstitute and gave away much valuable data that was to prove to be most damaging to the malignant institute's plans in the DC but not just there.

Mantca was to prove in future to be a most loyal and efficient DCRegulator utilising her altered synth side most effectively.

Made a mistake by naming the Trident submarine twice and giving it different roles. Changing matters to there being two submarines of which only one is a Trident.

Changed, fixed, a problem with discussing the Trident submarines as two distinctive machines. Now they are a smaller, but still big stealth-attack submarine and the massive Trident. Please reread above posts in which the 'submarines' are mentioned.

6.1[7]

President Oblama, of the United States Federacy, was active in the old northern middle USA Mainland as his USF soldiers fought an EagleEnclaver assault from the EagleEnclave in what had been Canada. It was a stalemate and soon to end.

In the deep south President Thumpem, of the United States Confederacy, was dealing with hordes of radghouls, led by radghoulers armed with basic guns, coming from what used to be Mexico.

The Wanderer, as MrWalker, led a great column of rescued-transformed entities into the Houstan LifeSanctuary.

The TriInstitute went through a schism with the ShadowInstitute leaving to go 'deeper underground', taking its malignant ideology with it. The GaiaInstitute split away to travel to the west leaving the remaining TriInstute to reform as three colour coded factions under the direction of the 'old man'.

Mothership Zetazolo, of the zetans and their followers-minions, went into geostationary orbit above WashingtonDC. Zetazola zetan teams began to carefully abduct small numbers of DCWastelands entities, sometimes running into big trouble while doing so; other zetanic teams sought such as artefacts, computerised data and other items. A small number of zetan teleport sites were placed into hidden spots in WashingtonDC.

The mysterious MrHouse officially took over a major casino in NewVegas in 'Nebraska'.
