Tips 'n Tricks

This is a place to post all of your tips in tricks you have ever run accross in MW. I know there are many scattered throughout threads, but this is a place to bring them all together for newbies or anyone to look at an organized list. (There will be TRICKS THAT HAVE ALREADY BEEN POSTED in other threads or have threads devoted to just them) I will try and add all your tricks to my post as soon as I can.

A General Tip: Buy the Morrowind Prophecies! That book helps for every single quest in the game, including some random Freeform things. -Xionith

Easy money, can be gained like this: Get an amount of money somewhere around 5000, or more if you want. (That is simple so I wont explain it). Then go to Creeper (or mudcrab, or a high-money merchant) sell him as much money as he has, then rest. Making sure that you get that same amount of money from him. Do it for about 150 days, and you should come up with a good amount of money. Then kill the merchant and take his/her/it's money. So you should probably find someone besides mudcrab or creeper, and really make lots of money.. ( 700000 bucks free sound good?) -Xionith

To train two skills easily: Alteration and Security. Your alteration can be trained by locking doors. Instead of unlocking them with a spell of unlock, unlock them with a lockpick. This trains to skills easily and safely at the same time. -Breton Thief Oriana

On Good items to make (Enchantment wise): It is a good Idea to enchant an item of CE invisibillity, as you can unequip and re-equip it to stay out of trouble as long as you don't touch anything. This way, you can sneak past ANYthing. -Breton Thief Oriana

Un-Blinding The Boots of Blinding Speed: Once you have the BOBS (if you don't then check six tips down) then purchase a Strong Resist Magicka Spell. Make a new spell via Mages Guild or someone who does create spell, and make it Resist Magicka 100 to 100 for 1 second, Cast when used. Now cast the spell and immediately open up your menu and put on the Boots. Except for some reason the spells effect lasys forever.--Also an untested theory (untested by me at least) include (I think while your indoors) go into your menu equip boots go out of menu. Go in unequip go out. Repeat until unblinded. Again this theoriy is untested but has been said. -Xionith

Train Armor like this: Slaughterfish are an excellent way to increase armour skills- just jump in the water and wait for the fish to bite! Lower-level characters may want to bring a few health potions. -cmac

Loot if you can kill a Daedra: Berandas is a great way to get tons of loots and souls fast. All the chambers of the stronghold have respawning Daedra. Kill them, dispose of the corpses, leave, and the supply will be replentished! Also note the presence of a Daedric Dagger and a Daedric Spear embedded in the skeleton in the lower caves -cmac

Training to 100 without Master Trainers: There is a nice trick to raising skills to 100 without needing a master trainer who can be difficult to find. First, you have to find the "fortify skill" spell effect (easy with Tribunal) and create a custom spell of "Fortify other's skill" (on touch), for example 50 pts for 10 sec. Cast it on the trainer you need (like Wayn for armorer skill), then train to increase one point. Repeat the process until you reach 100, but you must cast the spell again each time you want to train. -Xionith Found on UESP

Training Athletics/Sneak for free: There is a way to train this much like you can with Athletics by running into a wall. This includes the 2nd Thieves guild quest in Balmora, but is not required. Go to the Nerano Manor and try to steal from Ondres Nerano and make sure he notices you. This will put him into combat mode. Next, run and jump up on the tables in the same room, the ones that form a half circle around support beam. Jump onto the plant by the support beam and you should be able to sneak there while Ondres Nerano tries in vain to punch you. Now just put a paper weight on your sneak key and you should be at full proficiency in sneak in roughtly 10-12 hours. So it's best to do something like this while you're at work or sleeping. -Xionith Found on UESP

Amulet of Shadows: It's not neccessarily a trick but, it may be needed to complete certain tricks and is just a useful thing to have.So to get it go out of Gnisis (through the large Balmora style architecture arch with the large dome next to it), and head towards Ald Velothi, staying on the path and following the signs. After a little while you will come across a lady near a pond. If you talk to her she will ask you to retrieve her ring from the pond. Go down into the pond and get her ring. Then you will hear a creepy voice saying, " No good deed goes unpunished outlander..." You will be attacked by the lady and a 80% invisible person. Kill them and take the invisible persons, amulet. The amulet of shadows. -Xionith

Boots of Blinding Speed: Once again It's not neccessarily a trick but, it may be needed to complete certain tricks and is just a useful thing to have. The Boots can be found on the NPC Pemenie. Take the road North out of Caldera. At the first cross roads, take the right road. Follow this until you come to another signpost. Keep heading west-ish, the road will turn and you'll see Pemenie on the left side of the road. She gives you the Boots as a reward for escorting her to Gnaar Mok but you can kill her outright. (See above "Un-Blinding The Boots of Blinding Speed" to unblind them) -Xionith

Another way to train for... free!:I found a great sparring partner in the game! Go to Sadrith Mora and go to the Gateway hotel. You'll find out that one of the rooms is haunted, it's the south wing room. Go there and a ghost is there. He seems to have high skill, but low damage (to my character anyway!) So I took off my armor and let him hammer at me for a while to bring up unarmored skill or block skill, if I am holding the shield. Obviously, whatever armor you are wearing will benefit, though you'll have to fix it after it get pounded a bit (which is why unarmored is good!). Then you can just hack at the ghost with whatever weapons you want to advance in. It good if you beat him down with your fists so that he is more fatigued and easier to hit with weapons that you have low skill in. He has quite a bit of hitpoints, so you can hammer at him as long as you like. If you kill him, go downstairs, go out the door then back in...tada! Fresh punching bag! Also, if you get hammered too much...just go into the room where he came from and take a nap! He won't re-appear until you exit through the downstairs door! You can do this until you are absolutely sick of constant combat... -Xionith Found on UESP

Bound Items: Possibly the best 'tip/cheat/thingy' in the game. Summon a bound *enter weapon name* and then unequip it from your inventory. After placing it in your inventory off your person, drop it. You cannot remove it off your person and drop it, you have to drop it into your inventory first THEN you may drop it. So now you have a constant effect Daedric Weapon that weighs absolutley nothing. -Ancalagon

Scroll of Mhas Vengeance: This is a very good Summon Bound thingy scroll. It will give you Daedric Shield, Curiass, Helm, Boots, Gauntlets, Battle Axe, Greaves so just do what it says above and voila! The scroll can be found (eventually) from a seller in the Vivec Mages Quild. -Ancalagon

A free daedric weapon: South of Balmora along the eastern mountains is a place called Vassir-Didanat Cave. This cave is actually the lost ebony mine go inside and you will officaly know the location of it. Next head to the St. Olms Canton and enter the haunted manor thats in the plaza. Inside you'll find a man named Vadam Dren wanting the location of the mine, tell him and he'll give you a choice of any Daedric weapon you want. -Xionith

Propylon Index's: A Propylon Index is a small cone-shaped rock that allows you to transport yourself between the Dunmer strongholds that appear on the paper map. To use them, simply go to the Propylon Chamber of a stronghold and activate one of the Propylons. If you have the index for that particular Propylon in your inventory, you will be instantaneously transported to the Propylon's destination Propylon Chamber. Thus these are very useful items to accquire in the beggining of the game for transportation reasons. Also mark and recall spells are good to get. You can find the amulet of mark and the amulet of recall also. They are found here: Verick Germain, the trader in Caldera, sells an amulet of Recall. Galtis Sarethi, a hostile NPC in Shurinbaal, has an Amulet of Mark. Or you can just make them yourself, which is quite simple and inexpensive but does not require any caves or such. Here also are the locations of the propylon indexes"

Andasreth Propylon Index

Hlormaren, Dome

The Hlormaren Keep is near the West coast, West of Balmora. The index is in the dome on the middle shelf to the left of the dome entrance.

Berandas Propylon Index

Gnisis, Arvs-Drelen

Arvs-Drelen is in the main town of Gnisis, North side. The index is on the top shelf next to Baladas at the top of the home. It has no assigned owner so Baladas shouldn't mind if you take it.

Falasmaryon Propylon Index

Maar Gan, Shrine

In the shrine in the South-East of this main town. The index is on the silver plate next to the big rock when you enter the shrine. Salen Ravel is the index's owner, so be careful when you take it.

Falensarano Propylon Index

Maelkashishi, Shrine, Forgotten Galleries

This Daedric shrine is a little ways West from Maar Gan on the other side of the mountain range. The index is on the scroll next the skeleton at the very top of the Forgotten Galleries section (levitation needed).

Hlormaren Propylon Index

Caldera, Irgola: Pawnbroker

Irgola's shop is easily found in the center of Caldera. The index is on the window sill next to Irgola, who also owns it so be careful if you decide to steal it. Irgola should sell the index as well.

Indoranyon Propylon Index

Tower of Tel Fyr, Hall of Fyr

Tel Fyr's tower is on an island a ways SouthWest from Sadrith Mora (you will visit the location during the main quest if you haven't already). The index is at the top of the tower on the table next to Divayth Fyr (he doesn't own the index so feel free to take it safely).

Marandus Propylon Index

Vivec, St. Olms Temple

The Temple in the St. Olms district of Vivec is reached via the Plaza level. The index is downstairs in the NorthWest storage room on the floor next to the crates.

Rotheran Propylon Index

Rotheran, Communal Hut (Rols Ienith)

The Rotheran Stronghold can be South of Dagon Fel near the tip of the island. Rols Ienith is just inside the communal hut and must be killed for you to obtain the index.

Telasero Propylon Index

Telasero, Lower Level

This stronghold can be found a little East from Suran (or a ways West from Molag Mar). The index can be found in a troth in the center area of the lower level.

Valenvaryon Propylon Index

Urshilaku Camp, Wise Woman's Yurt

The Urshilaku camp can be found along the coast a ways East from Khuul. The index is on the table at the back of the Wise Woman's Yurt. The Wise Woman Nibani Maesa owns the index so be careful when you take it. -Xionith taken from Marxist male without a father/UESP

Good abilities to have: Get exquisite clothes and as soon as possible do constant enchants of water walking, water breathing, night-eye and levitate (unless your character has these skills). It is easy to miss a lot in ruins and caves if you can't levitate. -Malchik

Spell Training...with no trainers: If you want to level your spell schools without forking over tons of cash to master trainers then you can always make a small 1 casting cost spell and as you're walking from one place to another continually cast them. -thanateros

Another Sparring Partner: As for sparring with somone this method is a bit more complicated, and you need tribunal for it but if you hire the merc and get the royal singet ring put it on the merc and spar with him...he won't die too easily. -thanateros

Leveling Block: For leveling you block skill and not wanting to have to sit through the process you should make several articles of constant effect restore health items and find a kagouti or nix hound (this works for increasing armor skills) and just let them pound away at you for a while (just be sure to check every one-in-a-while to make sure equipment doesn't break). -thanateros

Increase Armorer: To increase your armorer skill you, after killing an NPC, can strip them of their armor, repaitr it and put it back on the corpse (or keep it). -thanateros

Alternative water breathing: As for constant effect water breathing it isn't really necessary if you have around a CE 3 restore health distributed across your items. The screen still flashes red once you are out of breath but your health doesn't go down. -thanateros

Lockpick: The best and most frequently used item in the game that I have is my exquisite belt that can open locks up to 100. No matter what class (besides lockpicks) you are everyone can benefit from a lock opening article of clothing. -thanateros

Training for 1gp: If you find and purchase a drain skill spell (known to be in Fort Moonmoth and Skaal Village) you can make a drain [insert desired skill here] spell 100 to 100 for 2 sec. Now cast your new spell on the desired trainer, who has the desired spell. Quickly initiate the conversation box and train, as you will notice training now costs 1gp and AFAIK you can train to 100. -omniender

A Soultrapping Dagger: Complete the Balmora Mages guild quests and get the souldrinker dagger. Use it to fill the highest quality soul gems you can find with the highest creatures you can find and sell them to the creeper. An atronach (there is one in the Vassir-Didanat mine) is worth about 4000 septims. If you trap golden saints etc the price becomes too high to be practical to sell so set your sights a bit lower and you'll soon be rolling in money. -Malchik

Almsivi and Divine Intervention Amulets: I found that these amulets were helpful. I started a new game and soon realized I cannot live without them! So all you have to do is complete Edwinna's (Ald Ruhn Mages Guild) quests up to a certain point, and she gives them too you. The quests are very simple, and only involve you having to take a guild guide to Vivec, and buy a book, or steal one or return one etc. -Xionith

Leightweight Armor, actually No weight armor: Find a set of exquisite clothes, complete with belt, rings, and an amulet. Don't worry about the shoes though.

Accuire 6 Grand Soul Gems and put Golden Saints into them.

Find the following summoning Spells:

Bound Cuirass

Bound Greaves

Bound Boots

Bound Bound Helm

Bound Weapon (whichever one you prefer)

You've got one more piece of clothing and one more soulgem, put whatever you want into that one, my reccomendation would be to have a Bound Longbow.

Now, go get lots of money for some enchanting fun. Enchant each article of clothing with a Constant Effect Summon Bound <equipment>. Now if you equip the clothing, the armor will automatically appear on you, and won't go away as long as the clothes stay on you. And the best part is, they're weightless! -Blackmage

Directions: Generally when NPCs give you directions the directions are not written into the journal. Nor do they usually give the chance of repeating the dialogue. If you don't pay attention you miss them completely. (I accept that they are sometimes unhelpful but most often they at least send you in the right direction!) -Malchik

ok, that one isn't as good as the one above. Better try again.

Hrm, let's see.

Another tip: Obtain the Scroll of Lord Mhas(sp) Revenge, lather, rinse and repeat...always repeat. ;) The only armor of Daedric nature you'll need are Pauldrons, since there are no spells or scrolls that summon pauldrons.

Thank you all, for all the tips, now there seems to be a semi-long list and it's awaiting more!

Ancalagon: On your second tip your saying that this scroll summons daedric armor which you can do the samething with your first tip with? If not please explain.. :help:

Alrighty, se Lord Mhas(sp) Revenge basically summons a Bound Daedric Shield, Curiass, Helm, Boots, Gauntlets, Battle Axe, Greaves, and that's it I believe.

Now, you know the pic. of your character correct? And how to equip/unequip armour you drag it on or off the pic. right? Well, with bound items, once summoned go to the inventory menu and remove the item off your character. Once this is done, then remove said item (must be bound) and drop it. Wait for 60 seconds (Nominal Bound item time) and after the Bound Item icon near the GPS map thingy fades you will have a constant effect item that weighs nothing.

With LMR you can do the same since they are all Bound items. I had a stroke of genius one night and tried it out. Well, sufficient to say I was pleased with my myself in what I had discovered. It makes the player nearly invincible...but then again I never took on Dagoth Ur with said Armour yet...must try this..hrm hoom...

Hope that is clear... :D

Too bad it only works on the unpatched game (or at least I remember trying, and getting told I can't remove bound items from my inventory).

There are loads of tips on the system already if you want to try to pull them together. You should probably add the daedric weapon from Dram Bero - worth a lot of money - for info on the Vassir-Didanat mine. Also Divath Fyr has two chests with unique items provided you can unlock them (100) he doesn't object to you doing so and taking the contents. I find cliffracers are good to raise your armour skills very quickly and if you have a mix and match suit of armour the cuirass will go up most quickly but the others will too a little including unarmoured.

Good start is to collect four mushrooms on arrival, go straight to Vassir-Didanat mine collecting four flowers en route. Then you can do all Ajira's mages guild quests very fast. It will enable you to sell ingredients at a good price early on. Go to Dram Bero to get your reward

Buy the Mark and Recall spells early on (Balmora temple) very useful for getting about. Also get the propylon indices quickly for the same reason.

Get exquisite clothes and as soon as possible do constant enchants of water walking, water breathing, night-eye and levitate (unless your character has these skills). It is easy to miss a lot in ruins and caves if you can't levitate.

The Urshilaku Burial Caverns is a good place for loot without seriously difficult defenders - rats, skeletons and the odd ancestral ghost. The cave of Ibar-Dad is also good but more difficult (dremoras, daedroths etc.)

Hope there is something in that lot you might find useful.
