Same problem, but some additional info:

I am trying to install on Linux - the steam deck to be precise.
LW install works fine, also the linux install script from LWR says it works, but when starting a new game, this issue appears. After you select a starting country and the mission load screen, you only see the hologlobe from the xcom HQ. 
I tried with the install_linux and the install_linux2 script but both show that issue. So it seems the handover to the tactical gamemode is not working correctly for whatever reason.

I don't know what changed since the last time I tried to launch the game but for some strange reason everything seems to be okay now - the games launches just fine ... I haven't tried your new version yet though ... it's definitely a mystery : )

You got a little further there than I originally did @ComMcNeil ... it may sound weird but ... have you tried turning your device off and on again? ... did you install the latest update or which version are you running?

Is there any way to get rid of 'cleanse of the clones'?

I want to use enhanced soldier customization mod but both those mods change same things so it causes CTD on first mission load

Not unless the mod is updated to work with LWR.

Hi, maybe stupid question.

I'm playing on Easy. I noticed, that on easy level I've less soldiers on start. Two for first mission (on classic I've seen four), and (few missions later), three or four. It is normal? Easy mode, less soldiers?

XC Long War Rebalance newest version

From my experience, the number of soldiers available for missions is not affected by difficulty setting. 

Two possibilities come to mind: (1) you have a bad install and necessarily need to return to square one; (2) you have activated the Second Wave option Desperate Odds and, therefore, you are getting what you asked for: less soldiers on missions.

Others may have more informed and/or better advice. Good luck, you will need it -- today is Friday the thirteenth!

Maybe you have selected the second wave option "Desperate odds"?  This significantly decreases number of soldiers you can field.
