New modder with an adventurous mindset

Hello everyone. I go by WakahisaSensei, or just Sensei, or just Wakahisa/Waka. Or anything really. I'm a pretty laid-back person. The name choice has to do with my somewhat natural teaching skills (despite not being a teacher) and I'm always happy to share what I know. Sadly for me, modding is not something I'm particularly knowledgeable of, nor computers in general. Much of my knowledge and study efforts go into fields of business, law, and politics. I'm also quite good with history and complex math, pretty decentwith languages too.

I'm relatively new to modding more complex games. In the past most of my modding was limited to simple cheat hacks or very old games such as FF7, Deus Ex, SNES, Mario 64, etc. I'm not the most computer savvy person but I learn quickly when I have an interest. So I have to admit that there are many terms and skills that many of my fellow newbies probably know that I don't. Some of the most basic principles regarding computers often escape me.

My current modding target is Skyrim and Skyrim alone. I want to see how far I can stretch it so I've been installing a variety of mods and try to figure out what goes wrong and why. I have broken the game about three times now, requiring complete restores. Having a blast doing it. Once I have the mods the way I like them, I'll probably play through. For now I'm experimenting a lot.

To date I've managed to accidentally remove all enemy NPCs and several significant NPCs from Solstheim (Still not 100% sure what went wrong there but it may have had something to do with a botched install of Live Another Life). I've managed to combine plenty of body changers that should not be compatible (worked briefly before the game kept having CTDs). The point is I've broken Skyrim a lot and even the repair and figuring out what went wrong has been fun. It's like a puzzle with awesome and/or funny solutions.

I have installed a wide variety of mods, (some of which I don't even use beyond testing to see if I can get them to work.) I've been hesitant to use mods effecting or requiring high resolution as my computer is a bit old.

Anyway, glad to have found this site. Hope some of you are willing to chat from time to time. Any advice is appreciated or we can talk about anything really. My favorite mod has to be Macho Dragons.

Pleasure to meet you, Wakahisa-Sensei, and welcome to the Nexus Forums! I'm glad you're having fun modding Skyrim, and I agree messing up and breaking some things is always fun to have happen since I'm sure being perfect is no fun at all. In my opinion, Skyrim is pretty flexible with modifying and playing around with, but that could be a bit of a biased opinion if I was comparing it to other mod-compliant games since I've played Skyrim for quite a while now.

But as said, I'm happy you've found these sites here, and, do enjoy being here, too. We're glad you can be a part of this community, I hope you like your time spent here.

I enjoy it very much. Glad to meet you. Anyway, going to get right to modding today. Debating what to add. Something cool? Something pretty? Something silly? Something NSFW (Usually ends up being silly anyway)? I'm leaning towards a blood mod, specifically the one that makes waterfalls blood. I'm going to slowly turn Skyrim into hell. ^-^

It's not my mod. It already exists. As I said, my modding skills and computer skills in general are not quite there yet. For the time being I mostly download other mods, mix and match, and learn. Once I have a better handle on things I may attempt to make my own for Skyrim. Gonna need a lot of free time though and a lot of tutorials. But It surprises me that no one has made an asthetic mod that turns Skyrim into a burning hellscape of blood and fire with all the NPC's looking downtrodden. Plenty of hell themed mods, demon races, and even a decent hell level/quest set, but nothing that's just for asthetic purposes. Plenty of mods that could be considered heaven mods (though not by name), that is to say mods that make skyrim look beautiful and happy. Perhaps I'll consider making the hell mod when the time comes to start making my own skyrim mods, but that's probably a long way away. That said if anyone wants to steal the idea and run with it, no complaints on my end. I'm a busy guy so I can't say for certain what I'll accomplish and I don't have any particular goals other than experimentation and fun. I have plenty of ideas, but they may require a more dedicated mind or they may be impossible. I guess I'll find out.

Correct!

You have a huge number of plans of what you want to do. As huge as an Elephant. :woot:

Write down all your plans in a to do list. :geek: That way you will have a memory like an elephant and none of your pieces will slip off into oblivion before you get to them.

Then do them one bite, or piece, at a time. :geek:

Like I said, I don't have any particular goals. Making Skyrim a living hell is more of a whimsical on the spot goal than any real attempt. It's probably something I'll do piece by piece as I discover more mods and start making them myself. Honestly I don't think it would be difficult to make Skyrim hell. Replace most/all water textures with blood. Random fire here and there. All non-vampire/daedra NPC's have their clothes replaced with rags, more daedra vampire and beast encounters. I'm not fond of adding new quests as I think vanilla skyrim has plenty (plenty that need fixing too) so I probably wouldn't configure things too much beyond that. Up to the player if they want to dress in rags and be damned or dress in armors or use race mods and be a demon. Maybe even an angel trying to save the damned? But I wouldn't really call it a goal so much as a whim. My only real goal is learning at the moment. I learn about installing mods, then more detailed mods, then supplement programs, then maybe making mods myself.
