Setting "Automatically run FNIS on every deployment"

I think it's only been in Vortex for a build or two now, but I'm wondering what the new setting "Automatically run FNIS on every deployment" means/does? On deployment of what, exactly?

As one who pretends I like to know what I am doing, I don't like this option as worded.

Most of my changes involves textures or armor, which unless they include animations do not need FNIS.

What I would like is for Vortex to run FNIS if any deployed mod includes or deletes any .HKX (animation) files. Maybe there is a better criteria.

It would be great if the fomod installer files included a flag that says "Bodyslide batch build required" that Vortex could do something with - but that is asking a bit much.

Currently, a god half the user problems with invisible armor / body are because the user did not read or ignored the instructions "Bodyslide batch build required".

What?!? I can't just download anything and install it without issues? I have to [gasp] read instructions now? Geez!

FNIS won't be run if no relevant file was changed.

To be clear: So, the Generate FNIS for Users window/dialog will open automatically if it detects that files relevant to FNIS have been changed?

  • 1 year later...

Sorry to necro this post but I really wish the intended way was how it actually worked, that setting means it runs after any change, even starts when I delete a save file causing my computer to lock up till its done.

Disabling it from 'auto running to save on memory over-usage its causing.

Again, sorry to Necro post x.x

I leave that setting turned off, and only run FNIS when I add or remove an animation.

That's weird yuuks. I can assure you that it does work for a lot of users.

If you want to help us figure out why it doesn't work correctly for you, please enable the feature, do something that shouldn't trigger fnis running and then send in a feedback with your vortex log attached (The feedback screen has the "Attach special file" button for that).
