Renaming option for clothing and armour

Recommended Posts

Renaming clothing and armour.

I download many mods, some have rename options on only some of the items of clothing or armour. Some items wont let you rename any of the items.

I use Outfit Switcher, and rename the items to keep track of the outfits. Adding the following Prefixes to the items.

*FIGHT ( For high armour, fighting outfits )

*TRADE ( For high charisma outfits, to get a better price with vendors, speech checks and allowing me to add more settlers to settlements )

*BUILD ( High Intelligence outfits, to get more XP from missions )

*CASUAL ( Just something that looks nice )

*RADIATION ( Rad protection gear, so you can travel safely in high radiation areas, such as the Glowing Sea )

Switching between the outfits when I want.

But some mod authors don't let you rename all the clothing and armour, some don't let you rename any items of clothing or armour.

I was wanting to patch the problem for myself, as all of the mod authors I've requested changes to allow renaming, seem to have zero interest in fixing the problem.

Question... Where is the rename items of clothing and armour, located in the Creation Kit or F4Edit, which ever you use.

These mods don't fix the problem...

Rename anything

Unlimited rename length ( no link, as the author removed the mod. Shame, as it was my favourite. )

"Question... Where is the rename items of clothing and armour, located in the Creation Kit or F4Edit, which ever you use".

For FO4Edit:

1. Open FO4Edit - on the Master/Plugins Selection window, right click and Select None - Now Locate the Mod in question by either using the Search Box and start typing the name of the mod, or manually scroll to it - click on the Box next to the Mod in question, then click on Ok

2. Now on the Left Pane Window, click on the Little Plus Sign next to the Mod in Question (will be the very last file on the left pane window), then click on the Little Plus Sign next to Armor - then click on the name of the Armor you wish to edit, by simply clicking on it in the Left Pane Window

3 now on the Right Pane Window look for Full Name "Name of the Armor goes here" <-- Right Click on it, then click on Edit, Click Yes to the Box that Popsup, rename it to what wish, then click on Ok if done correctly the name of the Piece of Armor will now be in Bold. once done, close FO4Edit, ensure the box is ticked next to the mod. and then click Ok

now when you go in game the piece of Armor will now have the name of what you named it.

Note: Armor and Clothing Falls under the Same Category

For Creation Kit: its even easier to do, however my tutorial works perfectly above, so theirs no need for me to write another way of doing it in the CK, not too mention it is much quicker to do it in F04Edit

I already knew about renaming objects, thanks for taking the time anyway. Its having armour and clothing, that is renamable in workbenches.

Eg...

HN66 Easygirl outfits...

There are a lot of outfits, some are renamable, some are not renamable. Here are 2 items of clothing/armour.

40_EasyGirl_LeatherPants_Black_BS This outfit can be renamed at the armour workbench

45_EasyGirl_MasamuneThong_BlackLeather_BS This outfit can not be renamed at the armour workbench

I've checked both the armours, side by side. There is nothing different on the armour screen, in the Creation Kit, that says it cannot be renamed, or can be renamed.

I'm obviously missing something, I've also recently been messing around with weapons mods, and I was missing a lot of information on that. I reckon I'm missing something simple on the armour and clothing, that allows for renaming of these items in the armour workbench.

I could just rename the items in FO4Edit, but I would have to do this out of game. It's just some information that I was wondering about, as multiple armour and clothing mods have the same problem.

I'm also a fan of renaming armor / clothing but the difference between items that accept it or not is in my experience really simple; if a piece of armor or clothing can be modified at the workbench, you are able to rename it. If not, you can't. Also keep in mind that there's a character limit to renaming items; if you go beyond it, it won't accept the name. Make it shorter and it will work fine.

To enable renaming for armor or clothing items that don't allow it anyhow you need to add some keywords to them in the CK or otherwise, in that they become accessible at the workbench. Keywords such as for miscellaneous mods, linings, weaves or legendary mods. Just take a look at modable items for examples.

ah right i must of read the question wrong, as mentioned above you need to add keywords to both the parent slot aswell as attach points, below teaches you how to do this, here is my ballistic weave tutorial, that will do exactly what you are requesting as well as giving you the added benefit to be able to add ballistic weave support to these armor and clothing

"==============================================
How to add Ballistic Weave Support to Armors and Clothing, (a tutorial by yours truly)
==============================================
1. download F04Edit
2. Open F04Edit - on the Master/Plugin Window, Right Click on Any Mod and Click on *Select None*
3. on the search box type: Female Tactical Armor - now tick the box next to it - then click on ok, and wait for it to finish loading - as indicated by this text on the right pane window ([00:02] Background Loader: finished)
4. now on the Left Pane Window, click on the little *Plus* sign next to *Female Tactical Armor.esp* - then click on the little *Plus* sign next to *Armor*
5. Click on: XXX_Female_Tac_Armor - then scroll down on the *Right Pane Window* until you find "KWDA - Keywords", in this section right click on the blank box next to that word, click on ADD - then Right Click on the "Null Reference - 000000" and Copy And Paste This: *ma_Railroad_ClothingArmor [KYWD:0020DE40]* - (Paste this Keyword without the Asterisks or Hyphen)
6. now thats the first part done, now on to the second part: Scroll further down until you find this: *APPR - Attach Parent Slots* - again right click on the blank box next to this word, and on the "Null Reference - 000000" Copy And Paste This: *ap_Railroad_ClothingArmor "No Weave" [KYWD:0020DE3E]* - (Again Paste this Keyword without the Asterisks or Hyphen)
7. Now close the program, ensure that the box is ticked on Female Tactical Armor.esp, and now you have saved the changes to the mod
8. Success you have now added Ballistic Weave Support to Tactical Armor, do the same steps for the rest of the armor
Note: it is easier to do in the Creation Kit, but will take much longer to do, for the same results. as such F04Edit is the way to go especially as it is quicker."
Note: i copied the above directly from my other reply to a mod, which was asking how to add ballistic weave (so replace the armor in tutorial, with the armor you wish to edit), but this will also apply to your post, as it allows to now be able to Rename Armor and Clothing as well as granting the ability to Scrap Them (you wont get any materials from scrapping them however, as this requires more steps to achieve)

It works great, thanks...

Sorry for the late reply, but I started a nightshift job a couple of weeks ago, with long hours and very heavy lifting. So I've been too wrecked to do much of anything, except work.

I tested it with the Shino Bikini mod, making one of the bikini's into a rad protection bikini. Lighter and better on the eye's. The outfit can be renamed, I was trying to get it to be renamable and upgradable as a normal set of armour ( I was wanting Deep Pockets upgrades, etc. ), but failing. Any ideas would be helpful.

I've tried one of the keywords off of the chain armour, but no success yet...

in that case it basically same as the above, except this time you add these keywords (for Upgrades, we will use leather armor addons as the upgrades to apply.)

so for Keywords add all of these:

ma_armor_lining [KYWD:0007FACA]

ma_armor_Lining_Leather_Torso [KYWD:00081B40]

and for the Parent Slot Attach Point:

ap_armor_Lining "Misc" [KYWD:00022821]

Note: in this situation the Keywords portion of F04Edit = the upgrades to apply to the armor in question (this essentially allows the Recipe Upgrade COBJ to apply to the armor that these keywords are added to, in this example, this will allow the Bikini to have the Leather Torso Upgrades Added to it.)

Note: the Parent Slot Attach Point = is what appears in the Armor workbench, this is what adds the new options in the armor workbench (and as such this is what allows you to pick what upgrade to apply to the armor in question, in the armor workbench, so this is very important to fill out, failing to fill this out means, nothing will appear in the workbench for the armor you have added the other keywords to.

Note: i have not tested this, but i am pretty sure it will work, as it is essentially the same as adding ballistic weave above.

I'm going to have the most upgradable bikini armour there is.

Shino Bikini outfit tweaked...

Rad Bikini outfit = 1000 rad protection, +2 strength for extra carry weight, Ballistic weave, 30 armour, and hopefully with your additions. Deep Pockets 2 and the leather armour upgrades.

That's one Helluva bikini armour.

Uses... used with Outfit Switcher as an alternative to the butt ugly rad suit and half a tonne of armour with deep pockets 2. I have not explored the radioactive southern areas in Fallout 4 much, with this armour, it will be a lot more fun.

Also... I can start making patches for my un-namable outfits so they can be renamable.
