Help me catch up with Fallout NV modding

Henlo fellas,
I've been away from the modding community in general for a few months and from new vegas community for well over a year now and it seems like so many things have changed already.

I really need your help , I have the latest version of NMM (the last one released that can read the creation club mods before they move to Vortex) and I am seriously confused.

My first question is : Do I have to switch to vortex if I want to use the newer fallout NV mods? I'm really used to NMM , some might say it's tedious but I find it really simple.

and my second question : what mods should I download to overhaul newvegas? I'm looking for an updated immersive experience that can keep me roaming the game for a couple hundred hours (if not for the gameplay then probably for screenshots and roleplay)
In other words , I am not looking for new weapons/armor/creatures or factions but I'm mostly looking for updated textures/models/gameplay mechanics/weathers etc...

If it isn't too much to ask for , I would appreciate sharing an updated modding guide in this thread or sharing your experience with me , I'll be forever grateful <3

Vortex is a successor mod manager to NMM, but as it still in "alpha" testing, I am not aware of any mods packaged in a way that require it and won't still work with NMM (or FOMM or MO or Wrye Flash). FNV does not have any "Creation Club" mods as they are for the "Creation Engine" introduced with Skyrim and it is still using the older "Gamebryo Engine".

The wiki "FNV General Mod Use Advice" article is the most current basic guide. It has links to most of the older guides that walk-thru specific mods (such as the S.T.E.P. "Fear and Loathing" guide).

The wiki "Fallout NV Mod Conflict Troubleshooting" guide contains solutions to specific problems. It starts with a checklist of things to look for when a new problem pops up and is constantly being updated as well.

Ah thanks mate ,

I am aware of most of the mods mentioned in that guide but are there any newer counterparts that might perform better? I didn't mod NV for over a year now

I suggest you look through the "Recent Activity" page of the Nexus FNV site and work backwards as the best way to see if there are "newer counterparts". Personally I check it daily, and couldn't tell you how many updates I've installed over the last month, much less the last year.

"Perform better" is probably not accurate criteria. Most of the time updates either fix bugs or add features. Alternatives are usually intended to provide features the author either didn't like in other mods, or felt were missing. Case in point: "Unofficial Patch NVSE" is offered as an alternative to "Unofficial Patch Plus", both of which are intended as supplements to the YUP. I would not say one "performs better" than the other but rather they offer alternative "visions" of the sort of fixes YUP excludes because they utilize "other than pure vanilla" techniques.

My personal focus is on bug fixes, stability, and utility. I've downloaded over 600 mods, but only implemented about a third of them. The vast majority of them are what you called "gameplay mechanics", but many of them are in "merged plugins". It would not be simple or worth my time to try to provide a list of them as what I consider "useful" probably won't match others opinions. That is what the "categories" on the Nexus are for. Most of my time is spent on the forums trying to help people get their game functioning or researching problems and writing them up for the wiki. I try to avoid "subjective" discussions.

I can recommend some mods that are not in those categories

1) Willow - https://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/41779 - best custom companion by far and she has built in quests as well - Make sure to keep an eye out for Plush E. Bear

2) Afterschool special - https://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/43757 - you restore Goodsprings School into a player home through quests - something I just recently found out is the mod author voiced one of the main characters in this mod, thanks Mike Hancho

3) Better New Vegas - https://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/48126 - This mod adds new, realistic towns with more nuclear vehicles and more enemies.

4) NVinteriors - https://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/43534 - Have you ever been exploring the Mojave Waste, thinking to yourself There's just nothing out here to investigate? If So, This mod is for you!

Those 4 mods have easily added 25+ game hours to my playthroughs

oh and if you're going to play Dead Money, go here and grab the 2nd file down( AWOP Dead Money 2.0 ) , it's standalone and adds a nice SAFE player home to Dead Money DLC lol - https://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/38719?tab=description

yea , I spent an hour trying to figure out which bugfixes mod is better , I ended up choosing YUP+JIP over Mission Mojave as it seems they can't work together according to the link you posted earlier but I still think they should work together if I overwrite the former with the latter since I like the changes of Mission mojave. I'm also still not sure whether any of the optional Unofficial patches are needed or not so I just ignored them.

Thanks for the help mate.

I might check this one , the other mods do not fit the way I'm trying to mod this game.

thanks
