Requesting help setting up and backing up a Modded Game.

I'm not going to sugarcoat things here, I'm a bit of an imbecile. Each journey through the modding of Fallout 4 I've taken

has ended in me messing something up, and ruining my whole game- and it's starting to break my heart. All waterworks

aside, it's becoming reasonably frustrating. At this point I've got only one idea left.

If somebody out there is an experienced Fallout 4 modder, and would be willing to help me set up, then back-up a modded

game, never to be altered again... I'd do just about anything. :/

I'm new to modding too and was having a lot of trouble. The best thing to do is take it slow, keep it simple at first, installing just a few so you know it's working and get some actual experience of how it all works, and use that as a basis to add more mods, but do it incrementally and thoroughly and make sure you've got everything right before proceeding. These aren't like official DLC's; the installation process isn't super-streamlined; it needs a lot of attention and the mods need a lot of TLC.

Also some of them just don't work well with others and you need to be able to identify which don't work with which, or which rely on which others, and the order to install them to get them to function properly.

You must read through all of the compatibility (and non-compatibility) notes thoroughly, including clicking on all of the check box options during install and reading them all. Even then, some of the information is incomplete or outdated and you need to be able to identify what more you need to know and then google it and if you can't figure it out that way, post a question here with specific detail, otherwise it'll probably just be ignored, because no one can give a specific answer to a vague question. :/

I managed to remove the $ signs from my DEF_UI HUD through a process of careful re-installation on a clean install of Fallout 4, thorough reading of the Mod notes, googling the problem and ultimately trial and error getting the files in the right place. I don't think there's an explicit step by step explanation anywhere, or if there is I didn't find it.

My best advice: go slow, be thorough and systematic, identify the specific problem and what you need to know or do to solve it, give it your best effort, and if you still can't get it to work bring that experience and that information to the forum in the form of a specific and detailed question (you're more likely to get a response that way).

Two more things you have to keep track of:

1. The order in which you install the mods with NMM, as they can overwrite each other and cause conflicts

2. The order you place them in the plugins queue in NMM.

Those are two separate things; the install order can and usually does differ from the load order. Unfortunately it's not enough just to install them in the correct order, you have to arrange the load order in NMM's plugins section as per the instructions in the mod notes too.
