Argonian & khajiit tail bug

Hi,

 

When I add mannequins (Skin-toned Mannequins) in my player house, the tails are bugged (see pic).

If I try to add a new Argonian NPC in the Construction set, I get the following message :

 

Bone Bip Tail01 not for part 'BASE Characters\Argonian\Tail.NIF' Requested by Dee-Ma model ......

 

and the message shows another 7 times, asking for Tail02 to Tail08. When I add the npc, the tail is bugged like for the mannequin.

 

Now, during gameplay, "vanilla" argonians are fine (Dar-ma and Seed-Neeus in Chorrol), and argonians from mods are fine too (Elahai from AFK_Weye).

 

I understand that I am missing textures?

 

Could somebody tell me where that Tail.NIF is supposed to be (on the hard drive).

 

I have not added any skeleton mods recently, so I can't simply uncheck the last mod added.

Actually your files seem to be all fine, at least regarding this specific issue, to me. What's happening here is the bone "Bip01 Tail01" (and the others) are not found inside the skeleton armature the actor/NPC is using, so the vertices inside the "tail.nif", which every member of the race uses, don't have anything to stick to and fly off into infinity, stretching the polygons along with them.

 

The thing is, unlike body meshes, which are global, head parts and skin textures, which are race-based, skeletons are actor-based. The tail-less default skeleton "skeleton.nif" is used by default for all actors of all races. The tail-ed skeleton "skeletonbeast.nif" is used by members of the beast races, but only when each and every actor also has it assigned instead of the default.

 

So the solution is split into 2 choices:

- Make sure each and every actor/NPC/mannequin of a beast race also has "skeletonbeast.nif" selected as its skeleton,

- Replace your regular "skeleton.nif" with your "skeletonbeast.nif", or any other tailed replacement skeleton for that matter, as the difference between "skeleton.nif" and "skeletonbeast.nif" is -only- the tail bones, and they can be used interchangeably for un-tailed actors.

Thanks for the explanation!

 

So I am in the Construction Set, Object Window, NPC.

 

If I click on Dar-ma (vanilla Argonian), there is a button showing "Characters\_Male\Skeleton_Beast.NIF"

 

If I click on my Argonian, the button shows "Characters\_Male\Skeleton.NIF"

 

If I click on the button to select a new file, and I navigate to "Characters\_Male\", I don't see any of the two files. No Skeleton.NIF, no Skeleton_Beast.NIF.

 

If I search for a Skeleton.NIF file in the Data Directory, I see some for different creatures, but none in a _Male folder.

 

How can I change the file? Are they inside an Oblivion.esm (?) and can't be seen (in the Windows Explorer)?

 

I see the solution you give, but I can't seem to apply it.

 

PS : When I created the Argonian, I right-click "New" and then edited her like I wanted. Should I try to edit an existing character instead?

Uh, oh, yeah! I totally missed that part. Yes, you'll have to extract the files from the BSA first, before they can be selected.

Now, you could've also just created a new text file inside the folder where the skeleton should've been, "named" it "skeleton.nif", and you would've been able to select it in the CS as well, then delete the 0 byte dummy again afterwards. But that's honestly a little dirty a trick anyways.

Just saying you won't need to "keep" this extracted version of "skeletonbeast.nif" around either, as the game will load it fine from inside the BSA, if it's not. But it'll sure be useful, if you intend to point the CS to it again from other records in the future. Sadly not even the CS can "browse" to files inside a BSA during selecting them.
