(Help) Problems with DDS files

Hi everyone,

I'm really new to modding and when I heard that Special K let's you dump textures I was stoked!

I'm pretty good with photoshop and when I tried to modify the dds files I dumped...

I was sad to see that they opened for sure but, they're totally black with sometime little dots of pixels.

I have the right plugin for photoshop.

And I'm using CS6

I would love some help please!

I'm assuming that your issues have been resolved seeing as you released two mods since posting this message, but in case you still need help...

What you need is the Intel DDS plugin for Photoshop, I too was using the Nvidia plugin before and had the exact same issues as you did while trying to open DDS files for this game.

You can find it here: https://github.com/GameTechDev/Intel-Texture-Works-Plugin/releases

Just download/install the IntelTextureWorks_1.0.4.zip, and be sure to load/save your files using that plugin.

Hope this helps.

This was actually super helpful thank you. I now can open and Edit textures, but somehow they always end up brighter than i indented. I think Im doing something wrong while savig them. Even if i just resave a file i downloaded here the Texture seems odd. What am i ding wrong?

This is most likely an issue related to the compression you're using while saving your files. If you're simply attempting to save a regular texture file (ie. not a specular/normal map), choose these options when the popup menu appears:

Texture Type: Color

Compression: BC1 4bpp (sRGB, DX10+)

Mip Maps: Auto Generate

Note that the compression should be the 2nd option down the list.

If you need any more modding advices I'd suggest you join this Discord server because I rarely check these forums on the Nexus:
