Loading Saves Causes Game to Freeze

Hello everyone.

Now then, I don't like annoying people on here with my problems, but this problem has somewhat... spiralled out of control. You see, in Skyrim, my character had just gotten to Nightcaller Temple, during the Vaermina Quest. Now then, I know the Dreamstride is an absolute bug-fest, but I didn't know that back then. Simply put, my game crashed when I left the Dreamstride and approached the soul gem for removal. I thought: 'Eh, no problem, I'll reload a quicksave I made earlier in the Temple'. This went poorly. I tried doing this. And it worked! I went through the Dreamstride all over again, and got to the same point... and crashed. I tried loading my save again, thinking I would just noclip through the barrier itself, and now my saves don't work AT ALL. I load a save, and the game loads, the loading text/figure appears... and then it freezes and I have to quit. I found out how buggy the Dreamstride was, and deleted all saves pertaining to Nightcaller Temple. Still nothing. I loaded saves earlier and earlier... yet still nothing.

I'm using Mod Organiser 2 to sort my mods, so if that tells anyone anything, please let me know. I'm a little at the end of my tether... I've looked up this problem elsewhere, but it appears to be as of yet unsolved. Or I'm being stupid, which I am, admittedly, very well known for. Still, I thought it would be worth posting for any altruists out there. The mod lists are: One for the mods active, and another for the mods installed. The game was running... well, as fine as modded Oldrim CAN run, with occasional crashes that were easily fixed or evaded.

Hi

Skyrim doesn't seem to clean up after itself very well so when you get a bug that shows up in earlier saves quit the game without saving, then switch off your computer count to 30, then restart.

With lots of mods Skyrim gets scary. I have even pulled the plug on my computer when I see my game falling apart.

In my game there is a 50% chance a vanilla quest will bug out. What I do is run 2 character saves. If the quest is buggy on both it is the game. If the quest gets buggy on only 1 it is the save.

It is the same with Dawnguard. In 50% of my character saves Serana becomes unresponsive at the entrance to the soul cairn.

I do a console save with a name that starts with "before" before I start any quest. If the quest gets buggy I switch off the computer and load the "before' save. Works for me.

Well, thanks for your help. But... unfortunately, nothing has worked. I'm not even able to get into my saves, much less quit without saving. I tried restarting my computer, but the problem persists. I'd rather not perform a complete reinstall of Skyrim, so any suggestions would be wonderful. When I load my saves, the text appears, everything looks normal, then the game freezes and crashes.

Probably your computer reached its memory and/or temperature limit.

Check/limit mods (especially textures) to minimize vram usage. Try to minimize any background apps/software running while gaming.

Does your computer have sufficient cooling system to keep the temperature in check while gaming? Overheating can cause game freeze.

There is a list of bugs encountered on this website. This may help you out. http://elderscrolls.wikia.com/wiki/Waking_Nightmare
