Vortex does not seem to be installing mods in right file for Fallout4?

Hello... Im very very new to this, I used NMM and it was just fine for skyrim and fallout, installed over 100 mods for both of them, and recently started playing fallout 4 again and was going to mod that again too.

Problem is, I found out about vortex and how NMM was no longer supported, uninstalled that (I did not have any mods on it at the time as before I had uninstalled everything to start a clean slate) and installed vortex, installed a few mods to make sure everything was working (Full Dialougue Interface being the main one for quick testing) and then things more or less went downhill from there.

After some fiddling around making sure I had that Fallout4Custom.ini thing I keep seeing posted everywhere (It seemed I had already done that quite a while ago) and fiddling with in-software settings I ended up file diving and finding out it seemed Vortex was putting the mods in its own little folder instead of fallout 4's folder, though I was not sure how to go about fixing that?

I'm still quite unsure whats wrong other than I know that I can download from the websuite, install, and enable without a hitch, but the mods do not work ingame. There is an error about mods deploying but after reading that it said fallout 4 mods can't do that, though it will not go away no matter what I press

If anyone can help me with this issue, please post here, Ill try to respond as Im very new to the forums too.

Thanks!

Just as NMM, Vortex will unpack the mods in a separate directory and then link the mods into the game's own directory. NMM did just the same!

The only thing you have to make sure that the mod staging directory in on the same drive as the game itself. Vortex will warn you if that's not set correctly. You can set the mod staging directory here:

Since you didn't write any details about the error message you get, I have to guess here. If that was not your problem then please write more about the error you get so we can help you.

I don't get any error messages other than the "Mods can't deploy" error, which when checking, stated it does not work with games based on the gamebryo engine (Fallout 4 and Skyrim SE)

Whats happening is I am able to do everything from downloading to installing without a hitch, but ingame my mods are simply not there, as in I can launch the game no problem, but the mods aren't there.

I'll fiddle around with what you mentioned, that must be the problem as I think that was off, but I was not getting an error message about it...

I'm getting the same thing, however, when I try to change the staging folder to like the fallout nv data folder, it says "folder must be empty..."

I shall refrain from expletives, but I am so annoyed with vortex.. It INSISTS on using my bootup drive for mod staging. This should rather be something that is left to the person installing vortex to decide. Not the program, especially if one downloads the custom location version of vortex.

I am not happy.

No, Vortex doesn't "insist" on using your bootup drive for mod staging.

Pick the folder you want for mod staging at SETTINGS-------->MODS----------MOD STAGING FOLDER

Also, why would you want to force the Fallout 4 folder to be in the FalloutNV folder.

That would be a mess.

You're doing everything wrong, which is why you're running into those error messages, I suggest watching the tutorials instead of blindly going along and messing up any other game installs you have.

As HardToRegister said (just to clarify), the ModStaging Path must be on the same drive as the game itself, but outside of the game's installation! I suggest creating a directory like <Drive>:\Vortex\<game> for this. Example, if you want to mod SkyrimSE which is installed on E: then I'd use the folder

E:\Vortex\SkyrimSE

as the Mod Staging Folder for Skyrim. You can name the folder differently, of course.
