Vortex Borked my Fallout 4 to hell

I really appreciate the Vortex team for trying to improve things, and when I saw that NMM would not longer be the default mod manager I decided it must okay to switch to Vortex.

Initially I was enjoying the experience but the more I used it the less I liked it. It started with little things like not being able to tell at a glance how many active plugins I had, then it seemed that some plugins came with Vortex preinstalled? Then I would turn off a mod but it would not turn off the related plug in. But I kept up and spent literally 2 days working on getting Fallout 4 switched over to Vortex.

Even with all the quirks, such as not being able to simply drag a mod to a new location to change the load order I finally got Fallout 4 running again.

But then every time I loaded a game from an old save, then made a new save, the new save would load all the characters would be naked, and tons of the assets would be missing. No matter what I did I could never get a save game after having Vortex installed to work.

So with all the other quality of life issues that still seem to be missing from Vortex I decided to go back to NMM.

It's just a shame that Nexus doesn't allow a NMM and a Vortex download button.

I'm looking forward to a working version of Vortex some day, but as of this point it is not ready for me.

Thanks.

Another genius who is blind and cannot see how many mods are being displayed in the game, right on the front screen of Vortex.

... and it is completely false that you cannot drag a mod to a new location .... but I won't tell you how is it to be done, till perhaps you, that are so genius to try to deal with something without reading of even visualize correctly, learn it the hard way, by reading and investigating.

The Download with Mod Manager button on each mod page works fine with either NMM or Vortex, all you have to do change the setting in whichever Mod Manager you use, to associate itself with NXM links.

Seriously, if you can't do something as simple as that, set file associations, then I suggest you stay far away from any kind of PC or Operating System.

I have a sinking feeling that a lot of the people complaining about simple things unrelated to modding like these are newbies to PCs in general and were just tired of seeing all the people's modded games over the years and decided to switch over thinking it was as easy as playing on consoles where it's plug an play.

I mean the NXM link issue is no different to setting your browser to open a pdf link in a new tab or open it using whatever PDF reader you have on your PC locally.

We are confident that Vortex is ready to replace NMM which, as you may know, has been in perpetual beta. Vortex is currently in beta, and, as is normal for beta software, bugs are to be expected. That being said, we believe it is stable and we plan to finalise it during the beta phase, iron out minor flaws, improve usability etc. before the full release.

As has been pointed out, you can see how many plugins are active right on your dashboard. Vortex does not come with plugins preinstalled. I am curious as to what gave you that idea.

Even with all the quirks, such as not being able to simply drag a mod to a new location to change the load order I finally got Fallout 4 running again.

This is not a quirk. I am afraid you approached Vortex with false expectations and were confused when it did not conform to your preconceived notions of it. I would like to point out our documentation regarding Vortex to clear things up for you: https://forums.nexusmods.com/index.php?/topic/7060326-vortex-help-center-faq-documentation/

So with all the other quality of life issues that still seem to be missing from Vortex I decided to go back to NMM.

If you could provide more information as to which quality of life features you feel are absent from Vortex, we could review your suggestions and/or derive valuable information from it.

It's just a shame that Nexus doesn't allow a NMM and a Vortex download button.

You have the ability to decide which mod manager handles Nexus Mods links. While it will still say "Download: Vortex" the button will start up NMM, if NMM is configured to handle links.

In essence it seems to me you approached Vortex expecting NMM with a new UI, but Vortex is different from NMM, and that is not a quirk or by mistake, it is by design. I hope the documentation I linked you helps to clear things up for you and/or you will be able to reapproach Vortex with a different mindset.

Here is my problem/trouble with Vortex. And I may have done something wrong...

But I downloaded Vortex and installed it. let it do its thing with Nexus site. And clicked on the thing with NMM.

But when I go to load a save game... It tells me that 10 mods are not installed. I look at NMM and it says they are installed.

So now what?

Don't import. Uninstall the mods on NMM, install them with Vortex. Will save you a lot of headaches in the long run.
