After downloading the current edition of Vortex and installing it, it will not run. Tried running as Administrator, still nothing. i am running Windows 10, made sure all drivers are updated and tired again, still nothing, again.

I have the same issue. Have tried uninstalling then reinstalling to no avail. Going to have to go back to NMM I fear.

Vortex crashes right at the end of installing itself. Downloaded it and tried the install several times. Will not start right after installing either. Tried unblocking and running as admin, still doesn't work. Steam? I hope that is not the issue or planned to be an issue. Don't have that, don't want it back. Not going to allow Steam to argue about a poor connection being an excuse for blocking me from playing an offline game. So... will Vortex be fixed soon? Truly appreciate the work being done. Great job. Hope it will be up and working soon. Would love to try it.

Have you followed HadToRegister's advice and installed Vortex 0.16.8? That workaround seems to work for most people.

Going to be hard to play a lot of games supported by Vortex if you don't have steam...

im an offline player, so, obviously, im not going to install steam.

after running dependency walker on vortex, it shows these files are missing:

API-MS-WIN-CORE-COM-L1-1-0.DLL
API-MS-WIN-CORE-WINRT-ERROR-L1-1-0.DLL
API-MS-WIN-CORE-WINRT-L1-1-0.DLL
API-MS-WIN-CORE-WINRT-ROBUFFER-L1-1-0.DLL
API-MS-WIN-CORE-WINRT-STRING-L1-1-0.DLL
API-MS-WIN-SHCORE-SCALING-L1-1-0.DLL
BLUETOOTHAPIS.DLL
DCOMP.DLL
IESHIMS.DLL

..obviously, i was able to copy the ieshims.dll from ie..but the rest ar'nt on my system.

..my os is windows 7 sp1 with, rollup packages and most of the vc++ and .net 4.6~.

..i dont know if its to do with steam, cus, i searched for 2 of the "API-MS-WIN*" files in main steam folder (on my online system that is up to date with steam), and they wernt there.

Ok, but I'm an offline gamer as well, still I need Steam since practically all games, especially single player games, are distributed using Steam these days...

The problem that Vortex 0.16.10 doesn't work without Steam is just a bug, however, you can either wait for the next release or use the previous 0.16.8 release (which you can get here: https://github.com/Nexus-Mods/Vortex/releases)

You still need steam to install the games, even if you play them offline.

You cannot run Steam games legally without Steam installed.
