WIP with an alternate start mod to give a more dramatic and freedom feeling

Hello, I'm an ocasional modder for fo4 and I've worked on a mod a few months ago to give the game a new inmersive start, without having to wait to the nuke and the vault 111 and all that vanilla stuff, which was a bit awkward, imo.

 

I've taken a breath from working on modding a few weeks ago, but if someone is interested, I'll work on it to polish some details and publish it.

The mod totally removes codsworth and the vault salesman from the postwar game and it gives more freedom as it tweaks some stages on the starting quest (from another quest, it doesn't modifies mq101 and mq102 at all, it handles the stages from other quest wrappers to follow different events).

 

I've thought this could be a nice alternate start for those who want to feel a more dramatic story or don't want to follow the main quest to meet the minutemen in concord from the begginning.

 

Here's the flow of the mq101 and mq102 quest wrappers with this mod (already working):

 

- Starting in vanilla prewar home, make character and move around.

- Go to shawn at any moment, and activate the shaun nor the mobile, the scene will fadeout (at this point, the prewar scene is done, no nuke no, vault 111, start straight to the point)

- BRANCH OPTION 1 - see the full kellog scene, identify who is your enemy and follow the vanilla game line, friendly with meet valentine at any moment.

- BRANCH OPTION 2 - jump to the wakeup scene (remove the kellog scene). Your wife/husband is dead and shawn is missing, with no clue at all of what happened

- Player wakes up in the cryo-pod - Start with some new animations, sad/depressed face expressions and better dialogs (recycled vanilla voices), you wake up frozen to the bones and you've lost your family.

- If you missed the vault rep scene to name your character and give attributes, you'll set the character stats and name before leaving the pod room.

- Discover some clues (check terminals and holotapes) of what happened to advance the quest wrapper.

- Exit the vault, failing 2 stages, save your family and find shawn. Following the branch option 2, you won't have clues about kellog and the institute ...

- Go back home - added some vanilla dialogs to fit more in the scene. rip codsworth.

- Enter home (autosave) and activate the crib, you'll get (autoplay, if possible) the codsworth holotape.

- Go check the other houses (some eventual short messages will notify you the quest progress), untill the stage is completed.

- Start the game, you've no clues of where to go (you're free to start by concord, following the vanilla questline and meet the MM)

 

 

To progress with the main quest, ive got to set some clues pointing to the memory den and see what happened, before meeting valentine. Modding the valentine scene about kellog would lose the inmersion of the main quest here, specially in the BRANCH OPTION 2.

 

mq101 and mq102 are not updated, but I had to add/change several regions, triggers and activators in prewar and postwar home, so other mods over these regions might cause issues.

 

I've added some popular videogame/anime music to the home events too (silent-hill,ergo-proxy, ...) , which I'll have to remove to prevent some issues publishing the mod.

 

Feel free to give ideas and tips, as I'might be missing several cases in the main quest evolution till meeting nick.
