I'm in the process of gathering parts for my very first custom gaming PC build. I'm going for the same mid-to-high range desktop I bought 8 years ago - not necessarily the best on the market, but really good, and hopefully enough to last me nearly another decade ( :laugh:). That being said, I'm having trouble in the GPU department. Specifically because I already have all the other components, and now I am trying to find something that will fit my power supply even in heavy-load gaming. I was originally planning my other parts around the GTX 1080 (I started planning earlier this year), but now I can't get one at a decent price, and on top of that they keep selling out before I can get my hands on one. I did, however, manage to find some 2070s at a lower price than even the 1080, but now I'm wondering if my other components can actually handle the newer GPU. Can anyone help me confirm? These are my other parts: Case - Phanteks Eclipse P400S Tempered Glass Silent EditionMoBo - Asus Prime Z370-PMemory - Corsair Vengeance LPX 2x8GB DDR4 3000MHzSSD - Samsung 970 EVO 500GBCPU - Intel i5-8400PSU - EVGA SuperNova 650W G3 Do note that I have absolutely no plans of overclocking. JimboUK Posted November 30, 2018 Share Posted November 30, 2018 I wouldn't bother with the "20" cards, yeah they have Ray Tracing but they're not powerful enough to do it without taking a nasty frame rate hit, they're also having a few "issues". Have you considered a 1070?? USA. I have thought about the 1070. How does it compare to the 1080? If it's not that much different as far as graphics performance goes, I might go for it. I figured it would take some time to iron the bugs out of the newer cards. I'd go with more than 650w PSU, it's better to over-watt than under-watt Unfortunately, I can't buy another PSU at this point, so it would have to be something my 650 can definitely handle. Can't do 4k gaming quite yet. :P I decided to go ahead and get the 1070.
