The A,B,C for Vortex installation !

This was created for you to have a shortcut about Vortex installation and to help you to avoid serious consequences.

 

1 - STEAM installs your game ( by default ) in this path :

 

C:\ProgramFiles(x86)\Steam\Steamapps\Common\<your game>

 

2 - VORTEX application ( the program itself ) installs by default in this path :

 

C:\Program Files\Black Tree Gaming LTD\Vortex

 

3 - MOD STAGING ... by default, Vortex installs it on :

 

C:\users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\Vortex\<your game>\<game mods> ...

 

…. however, this path can be changed if you want to, but DO NOT INSTALL YOUR MOD STAGING in either steps 1 and/or 2.

 

Doing so, will corrupt your entire game. Mods will disappear, mods will not work, mods from other games will probably show up in Vortex and mixed with other games they do not belong to, etc, etc, etc. and you will be in a world of pain.

If for any reason you made that mistake, DO NOT bother to ask any question about how to fix that. Simply, uninstall everything, empty your recycle bin, reboot and re-install the whole thing again from zero point. This cannot be fixed any other way.

 

My MOD STAGING is installed on : C:\users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\Vortex\<my games>\<mods>

 

AppData is the correct location for all applications specific data and Documents is the place for all user-maintained data.

 

4 - Last step, you need to choose where to install your DOWNLOADS. Again, DO NOT INSTALL your downloads in either step 1 and/or 2 and … do not install it either in the same path where you installed your MOD STAGING.

 

My DOWNLOADS are on : C:\users\<username>Documents\<my own folder with the name I wanted>

 

RECAP :

 

The easier way ( two automatic steps and only one manual step ) :

 

let VORTEX to automatically install the Application ( step 2 ) and Mod Staging ( step 3 ) in its default suggested paths. That will leave you with ONLY ONE thing that you manually need to do : choosing where to install your DOWNLOADS ( step 4 ).

 

A bit less easy ( one automatic step and TWO manual steps ) :

 

However, if you decide to install your Mod Staging in a different path that the one suggested by Vortex, remember, one more time, DO NOT install it in either steps 1 and/or 2 or in the same path where you installed your DOWNLOADS.

Going in this direction will leave you with 2 things that you manually need to do : where to install you Mod Staging and where to install your Downloads.

 

You have just built a solid foundation to housing your mods !!
