ModdingSince2019

Recommended Posts

Hello I am brand new to all of this and would like to begin modding my Skyrim game (original 32bit). I'm still in the stage of doing research, haven't downloaded anything yet, and I learn that I will need a SKSE for a lot of the mods to work properly. This is the part where I am confused about and it gets complicated for me. Can I download the SKSE from Steam? https://store.steampowered.com/app/365720/Skyrim_Script_Extender_SKSE/

Or, should I do it the way where I add the files to my folder? Can someone explain what would be better and what are the differences? I also plan to use Vortex to mod the game.

don't use the Steam version. Steam mods tend to break the game and I am pretty sure the SKSE team don't upload it on there so it's most likely unofficial meaning multiple things including being out of date

Apparently it's the official verson, check out the link. They said it is the same version as the one on their website (1.7.3) and it's not a Steam workshop mod, it's like its own game or something and also it will update on release... So it sounds like the easiest option for someone new like myself but I want more insight into this version of SKSE.

The Steam version of SKSE is an official version which is uploaded by the SKSE team. SKSE must be installed in the game's installation folder, NOT the Data folder or a virtual folder. Use either the Steam version or the installer version from the official website. Steam will automatically detect SKSE and start it. The information in the ReadMe provided with SKSE explains how to change your desktop shortcut to point to the correct launcher.
