TES5Edit - Can't remove/undo override

Hey all,

I'm having an issue with Skyrim after adding some new mods.

I added a good 20-30 mods, most all of them being extra content for the game. I also added some things to make the game look a bit better/be more immersive.

Anyway, I booted up Skyrim and couldn't leave my house without crashing on the loading screen.

This is when I decide to go into TES5Edit and seeing if I can create some overrides to correct this issue (I've done this in the past and it has worked fine for me thus far).

Spoilers; it didn't work. So I decide to delete some of the new mods that are less than necessary. The one I decide to get rid of first is Open Cities, however this is one of the mods I made an override for.

I deactivate Open Cities in mod manager, try to boot up Skyrim and the game crashes almost immediately with an error box popping up saying that that override I created for the Open Cities mod requires the master file to run.

This is where the problem is; I'm trying to remove/undo/get rid of the override I created for Open Cities. I can't find anything online for this problem that works; I've tried clearing everything underneath it, removing the identical masters, cleaning the masters with none of it having any effect (apart from letting the game boot to the main menu before crashing). I even tried flat out removing the override file, but TES5Edit won't let me save after doing that; it says something about their being an error because "at least on of the files has failed to save".

I'm kind of stuck here. I can't uninstall the mod and run the game because the game won't let me, but I can't play the game with the mod. This issue is preventing me from progressing further with other troubleshooting for the original crashing as well.

I hope someone here can help me. I just wanna play Skyrim again.

You have to remove your overrides before you uninstall the mod. So to fix this, reinstall the mod you made edits to and then remove the edits and save. Also, I hope you have a save to fall back on from before installing those mods. As a rule, I never try to install and test more than maybe two mods at a time.

The issue I'm having is with removing the edits/overrides; I don't know how, and whatever I've tried thus far hasn't worked in removing the edits/overrides.

I do have a save to fall back on, and yeah I'm thinking of doing that from here on out.

You made edits to an existing mod in another esp.? Then you uninstalled the mod you made edits to and your game won't work right? I'm saying to reinstall the mod you made edits to and then delete those edits lock, stock and barrel. Then uninstall the mod again and return to a save from before that mods installation in your game.

You made a copy as override for some things in another or new esp, correct? Just click on those overrides and delete them or just delete the whole esp if you don't have anything else in it that you need. You make the deletions in the esp itself to the left- not in the records themselves. For instance, I copied a weapon as an override into my merged patch. Now I don't need that override so I will look for weapon in my merged patch and then delete the whole record. Does that make any more sense?

I don't have the option to delete overrides or edits within the TES5Edit program.

I did solve my issue however; I went into my game directory, found the .esp file I wanted to get rid of, and manually deleted it from there.

I also discovered an awesome quick clean function for TES5Edit that has helped me run my mods better. Here is the link to that: https://tes5edit.github.io/docs/5-mod-cleaning-and-error-checking.html#s_5-3-2

Right click on the record in the esp and then the drop menu should let u delete the record. But, good that you did what you needed and it worked. Thanks for the link! That is some useful info there. :)
