Crosshair just red when hovering over something

Hello, this is your typical what's wrong with my load order post. I'll make a new character and step out of doc Mitchell's house then shortly after I can't sprint or open up the pause menu. When I hover over something my cursor will expand just like in solid project however it will be entirely red. When entering the Saloon every NPC will be a big error sign except for their head. Many of the bottles will be error signs and the textures are all messed up, not missing textures but it's like the game is using textures from other areas. I used LOOT to sort my load order and installed my mods through Vortex. I suspect solid project is likely having a problem with something due to the crosshair. Any and all help is appreciated.

For your "big error sign" problem, Please see the 'Solutions to Mesh (Red "!" icon) or Texture (solid color) problems' section of the wiki "Fallout NV Mod Conflict Troubleshooting" article.

* Be aware that one error may mask a number of other errors, which will not appear until those masking them have been resolved. Building a stable game consists of resolving each problem individually until none remain, and then realizing that every change you make thereafter (including updates to mods already installed) run the risk of introducing new problems. Be prepared to revert to a previous save if you do so.

Please see the 'Common Game Problems' section of the wiki "FNV General Mod Use Advice" article. In particular:

* Don't install every optional file for a mod. Read the install instructions carefully. Optional files need to be selected on a "case by case" basis. For example: with any mod you usually only need one ESP (and possibly one ESM) "base" file depending upon whether you have all the DLCs active or not. Only if you don't have them all active do you need to install any specific DLC versions if there is an "Ultimate Edition/All/Merged DLC" version. (Specifically you want to be using "NevadaSkies - Ultimate DLC Edition.esp" without "Basic Edition", and you have conflicts among the "EVE" files. I stopped looking at that point.)

 

Yes, the crosshair problem is due to a mod conflict. "Red cursor" sounds like it may be indicating everything under it is "owned" by others and if you were to grab something it would be stealing. I don't use either "Solid Project" or JSUE myself, but are you sure they are compatible? Do not assume cross mod compatibility unless it is so stated (especially by the newer of them). Check the comments section of each mod as well when there is a possibility they might.

I suggest that you go through your load list and actually read what you have installed. A quick glance and I was able to pick-up two plugins that would conflict with the game.

 

After you have that corrected and you know what you have installed, trim your load list to less than 140 files. This count includes the base game and DLCs.
