The Unofficial Patch won't re-install

I downloaded a paint color for power armor, a free one from Creation Club in honor of Valentine's Day, and there was a crash to desktop. Ever since, I could load, but going anyplace by transition or console (it's indoors) crashes me to desktop.

I thought I'd reactivate the Unofficial patch in case it needed to integrate the new esl file. It won't install. I have tried deactivating and reactivating, I have tried uninstalling from local profile and "activate and install", I even tried outright deletion and downloading fronm the Nexus again and it will not install!

I am apparently forced to log all the files I have converted to light masters and then start over completely from scratch. This is hundreds of mods.

I. Am. Not. Happy.

I had backed up to a previous save after. That's not it.

I will repeat the issue.

The Unofficial Patch will not install. At all.

As in it refuses to install. At all.

There was a problem in installing.

So it doesn't.

At all.

I can repeat it several times, just like the efforts to install it.

Because it won't. At all.

Which Mod Manager are you trying to install it with?

Sounds to me like whatever you downloaded and then had a CTD from is probably corrupt and you should be trying to fix that. Being unable to activate something else is likely only a side effect of a corrupt file in your Data folder.

Going to the Bethesda site and doing ANYTHING causes the game to 'update' (ie., loads unwanted and unneeded content), which makes MO's loose their mind, since they are not allowed to 'handle' Bethesda-created files in any way (other than just run them, which also includes reassigning ID's dynamically). Thus, your IDs get borked and the game won't run. Or, in other words, going to the Bethesda site breaks the seventh seal on the gates of hell, and the gremlins come pouring forth. Either way, same ending. Eternal damnation and all that.

I have no idea why the unofficial patch won't install - have you tried verifying your files on Steam? Since they've added new content (according to you), that means they've added another ID#, and if the Unofficial patch was the first non-Beth file in your load order (as its supposed to be), it could be that was the one that got bumped, and why it won't reload. The MO's just can't handle those files - they are "managed outside the mod organizer".

I add and subtract mods ALL the time, midway through my play-throughs. Its only when I tried to add or subtract Beth-content that I've had problems. Your mileage may vary.

  1. How much hard drive space is available?
  2. If you have installed mods directly into the data folder? your done.
  3. Advice given is to the letter.
  4. Once you involve your credentials with Bethesda's creation club? your done " your saved games are now Obsolete.
  5. Google ccleaner Free version, your going to need it.
  6. IF you have more than 60 gigs of free space available..rename your fallout4 game directory first.
  7. run ccleaner many times to clean out the systems registry file.
  8. This process will just remove data written into the main game folder, it will not erase external Unofficial local folders, you need to do that on your own, remove all traces of the patch in order to fix the problem.
  9. reinstall the game fresh.
  10. Delete or rename your saved files folder and start the game raw---unmodified to correct the problems and verify it will now run.
  11. If you believe the patch is required? now install it. "why" ? because files get overwritten.
  12. If your game now runs? your free to install any mods made from the nexus web site, stay the hell away from Bethesda's web offerings.
  13. DO NOT log into Bethesda in game because you will have wasted your time and mine.

the unofficial patch clearly states to not uninstall it during a play through. if you do that, you break your game.

the fact that you can't reinstall it suggests to me that you have other problems with your game environment as a whole. the unofficial fallout 4 patch is just a mod and has no special install requirements.

whatever your problems are, they're not the fault of the unofficial patch you probably need to empty out your data folder, get steam to verify the i ntegrity of your game folders and re-install your mods again.

i would stay away from beth.net completely because that will - without warning - mess with your load order and that action alone can wreck a game without you knowing. but i would really pay attention to the ufo4p instructions and never remove that from any game, because that's not gonna end well for you.

the mileage won't vary. if you do this, and the mods in question are not texture mods, then you break your game. period.

don't remove mods mid playthrough unless you can go back to a prior save easily.
