I'm trying to work on a Skyrim SE mod, but I can't access the necessary folder because it says "Folder Managed by Vortex".

I tried uninstalling Vortex to see if the association would change, but it didn't.

No error messages received from Vortex. Windows asks to select a program to view the file within.

I know that screenshot is not my game folder, that's where I extracted my files to.

I'm changing the color of a spell, and the tutorial I'm using says to extract the meshes into the same path directory. (In my ACTUAL game folder)

Basically making duplicates of certain meshes, so I can recolor them and add them to a new spell.

"Using the

BSA extractor or other chosen tool, find and extract this mesh to the same directory as stated in
the projectile’s data."

The path being Data/Meshes/Magic/X

(my Meshes folder is straight up gone now also...)

I'm going to move my mods back into NMM and see if that fixes anything.
Also I'm not seeing the Vortex files anymore.
All I've done is transfer my mods from the old Vortex folder into a backup folder before uninstalling. Pretty sure I didn't do anything else.

I've also ran into this issue quite often whenever playing FO4 & Skyrim. It can be very inconvenient. Especially when installing a mod that can only be patched by manually filling in missing or misdirected content.

If it adds anything to the conversation, Perhaps this is an feature to prevent tampering of important folders? Encase anybody who doesn't quite know better about how to resolve an issue attempts to access a folder containing files that could impact or damage the game if handled incorrectly. That was my first impression anyways. I know that probably seems extremely obvious, but I don't believe this is an effect of user error. (could be completely wrong, don't quote me on that) As far as I'm aware most people who've reported this issue have correctly installed Vortex and made sure their file destination correct. Which makes it appear that it could be a default of Vortex. I have no clue.

EDIT: All I know for curtain is "_Folder_Managed_By_Vortex" files appear to be placeholders for the actual file, making it impossible to actually access the contents of the folder that it's protecting. For example, when trying to install the HD Resolution Skin-Pack for the CROSS Break-Action Laser, the texture files for other CROSS additions were available for use. However, in place of the files that would normally contain the textures folder for the CROSS Break-Action Laser, was "_Folder_Managed_By_Vortex". The thing that possibility gives that folder an reason to be protected being that unlike the other CROSS mods I had installed at the time, BAL was intended to have skinpacks that could be dropped into the textures folder for HD res versions of the already existing skin options. Perhaps something about that difference triggered it to be flagged as something the user shouldn't have access too?
