A FISH, A FRIEND, AND A FOE

Disclaimer: This is an IDEA for a mod, NOT an EXISTING one.

 

Now that we've got that out of the way; the idea:

 

Context:

So, I've played around with some mods before (who hasn't?) and I've seen the trailers and stuff for Bruma and all these big ol' expansion mods and stuff with new cities and everything when all of a sudden I thought... what about an UNDERWATER city??? (Imagine the city from Star Wars that Jar-Jar Binks shows Obi-Wan).

And then, while I don't have any mod experience, I do want to become an author someday so what do I do? I think up and try to work out a backstory/lore/quest kind of stuff for it. So, if any modder(s) wants to take a stab at this feel free to, idk how to at all and (btw) I'm open to and would appreciate any and all feedback/suggestions/advice/etc.

Anyhow enough context; this is what I actually have so far:

 

ACTUAL IDEA:

 

Title: A Fish, A Friend, and A Foe

 

Story:

-Normal guy has a wife and kid[1]

-Wife suddenly gets sick

-Guy does everything he can, but she still dies

-Doesn't normally drink, but he goes and gets drunk

-While drunk, he in some way offends a gang (how though?)

-Gang demands to be repaid

-Gang takes kid[1] as hostage

-Guy goes looking for quick cash

-Finds a pirate crew about to set sail

-Convinces them to let him join for the job (why do they let him join? like what does he offer that they need??)

-They go and do the job (which is?)

-On the way back 2 of the pirates decide they don't want another person to split the money with

-They strap the Guy to a cannon and toss him overboard

-Guy sinks

-Merpeople find him and save him

-They save him because, while they know about humans from the ships that pass, never have they had one this close

-Merpeople don't innately breathe underwater, so they have an underwater city (I imagine it looks something like the one Jar Jar Binks shows Obi-Wan and Anakin)

-They take him there so he can breathe and not die, and so their scientists can do experiments and things

-Due to how close he was to dying, and the experiments, he has memory loss. Forgets kid[1]

-King's daughter is quite curious about the human

-Slowly, she falls in love with him

-After a while of them sneaking around, she gets pregnant

-King is furious, but, after many arguments, allows it

-Kid[2] is a weird, but perhaps cool cross between human and mermaid

-There are things most merpeople can do that he can't (like??)

-Kid[2] becomes smithy's apprentice

-Crafts himself armored gauntlets with the talons his folk are usually born with (he was not)

-Also crafts himself tail (or was he born with this part??)

-Basically he smiths himself stuff that normal merpeople have and he wasn't born with, but because it's smithed it's stronger. He might also invent some cool things

-He reaches something around 20 years old

-And then...

-King's son decides he wants HIS kid(s) to inherit the throne, and not his nephew

-He kills the King and frames his death on the kid[2] (how exactly?)

-Guard come running to capture them

-Guy and King's Daughter are notified of this too late for them all to escape

-King's Daughter kills herself and with her dying breath, gives her son the Gift of underwater breathing. All merpeople can do this with their dying breath. Is usually used on eldest son, who would then go into army)

-Guy is now too distraught to fight well and is captured

-Kid [2] is able to escape through secret passage

-Has to fight off and elude some pursuits

-In general though, he swims to surface, picks direction and just keeps swimming without looking back, despite the tears in his eyes

-The shore Kid[2] happens to reach is the shore to the town where Kid[1] is

-Kid[1] has grown up in the gang now

-Is swimming one day when he sees... something (Kid[2])

-They see each other

-Kid[1] bolts for surface

-Gang doesn't believe him, but he knows what he saw

-Comes back a few days later and finds Kid[2] again

-Doesn't run this time

-Leads Kid[2] to the surface

-They begin to talk to each other

-To make things a little more realistic I want to make mer-language different

-But to make it easier for things, while the language consists burbles and chirps and things, its meaning is magically translated to our ears through some... magic? or something

-So they talk

-Slowly, over a week or two they figure out they are brothers

-Kid[1] feels hurt that father doesn't remember him

-Kid[2] can't explain why but is sorry

-Also slowly, the local fish population is diminishing due to Kid[2]

-Townsfolk go looking for why

-Despite his efforts, Kid[2] is discovered

-Just like the mer-people were with the human, so the humans are curious about the merman

-They want to capture it, both for fish population and to do experiments

-Some men die, plenty are injured, and it takes a while, but he is captured and put in something (probably resembling the thing from Pirates of The Caribbean)

-Kid[1] can't tell them to stop, he's his brother, cause he will sound crazy

-But he also doesn't want his brother experimented on

-He convinces the gang to help him break his brother out of the lab

-Before they can do that, however, they will need a place to put him when they are done

-The go North a ways, and a little West I think, to where land begins to turn more into ice

-They choose a pond/lake and start digging

-They make a big long tunnel that goes through the earth and out to the ocean

-At either end they add hidden grates that can be opened/closed by similarly hidden levers

-They also have another lever that will (somehow) drain it of water (having in mind visiting his brother someday)

-Then they break out his brother and his gear

-By this time, however the scientists have had enough to time to look over the stuff Kid[2] had crafted and been able to replicate it

-Having to fight off plenty of pursuits, they make it to the pond/lake and Kid[2] in (explained levers and operations of tunnel along the way)

-On the ride back, another pursuit captures them

-None of remaining gang members give up any information regarding Kid[2]'s whereabouts

-Serve a long sentence, but are eventually released

This is where the quest comes in:

-You are at College of Winterhold

-Old mage is thinking of retirement, but has one last thing he would like to do

-But he needs you to do it for him as he is no longer fit

-He wants you to go get a deep-water fish that has only been rumored to exist, one that the Merman's diet had consisted of.

-Gives you a short history lesson on the time the discovery of the Merman was famous and well-known, and that Kid[1] has never revealed the Merman's whereabouts despite several interrogations, and pestering tourists

-There have been few reported sightings but none supported with physical evidence

-Says due to its sleekness and slippery nature you will need to pick up some Merman's Talons at your local smithy

-(Merman's Talons are the gauntlets the scientists replicated, and are now wide-spread among smithies)

-You pick them up, along with the water-breathing potion the mage recommends (unless you are Argonian, or have Necklace of Waterbreathing)

-You go to Northern waters and dive

-Upon finally reaching the depth you need to find them, your quest objective marker leads you to chase one quite deep and far

-Just when you are about to close in on it, you are surrounded by mer-people with whatever their version of spears is

-They take you into their city

-They take your gear for inspection and throw you into jail to await questioning

-You happen to be put in neighboring cell to original Guy (father of the kids)

-They have typical public interrogation where they question you about the Merman's Talons, saying that while they are not the originals, they are clearly replicas or what originally belonged to ancient royalty: how did you get them?

-You explain what the Mage told you about the Discovery of the Merman and the replication of the gauntlets, and his escape, and that no one knows where he is except for perhaps Kid[1]

-You go back to you cell while they 'decide your fate'

-You and original Guy get to talking about what you guys are in for

-After telling him what you had had to tell the interrogators Guy finally remembers Kid[1] and breaks down crying

-You ask him why, and discover he is the father of the kids

-He recounts what he remembers of raising him, super glad that he can

-King (bad brother) would rather have you killed, but the news about the possible livelihood of ancient royalty has spread too quickly for him to do so quietly

-They tell you to return to the surface and that if you return with proof of ancient royalty being alive they will reward you, whereas if you ever comeback without proof of any kind, they will kill you for fear of being discovered and that they only don't now because chance of ancient royalty is too great to pass up.

-Send you on your way

-You go back to shore and ask around for where Kid[1] might be

-Doesn't take too long to find out where

-To get to him, you must get past gang members

-But telling them that Kid[1]'s father is still alive, they stop fighting you and take you to him

-He agrees to deal of information on Kid[2]'s whereabouts if you give him proof of father being alive

-You tell him what his father told you about raising you, things he has never told anyone about

-He believes you, and tells you where Kid[2] is. Says he would take you, but for fear of still being watched he will not

-Tells you the code-word he told Kid[2] a friendly would use, so that he doesn't kill you

-You carefully avoid pursuit and go North to pond/lake and enter tunnel

-You find Kid[2] and tell him about quest, and father nearing death due to age, and brother

-Kid[2] starts fighting you

-Between sword strokes you ask why and he screams that the mage that gave you quest is one of the scientists that experimented on you and that you must work for them

-You promise him that you aren't

-That you don't like the scientists either, and will return with mage's head (or perhaps body) as proof

-Somehow convince him to let you go

-Go kill mage

-Bring back head (or the body) as proof

-He thanks you, and then says that he should wish to see father again, and that he would like his brother to come with him

-Tells you to tell brother to meet him where they originally met

-You go tell brother, and he agrees, but only at night for fear of being watched

-Don't have to worry about him breathing underwater; from having stolen so much over the years with the gang he has a few items of waterbreathing, lends you one for the trip

-You go back down with them to the MerCity (thinking of calling it Deepwater Domain, but might change it to something better if I think of it)

-You guys arrive

-Are brought in under guard

-Put under trial for the (framed) murder of the old King

-A friend of the father's was an undiscovered, and thereby un-eliminated witness that now comes forth and reveals truth

-King (bad brother) loses it and tries to kill Kid[2], but Kid[1] joins him and together they slay the bad brother

-bad brother's kid says that with growing population of city, it is almost enough to split and have 2 King's, but that if not, he will pledge loyalty to Kid[2]

-Kid[2] agrees to rule with him

-They free the kids' father, and give keys of the city to you and to Kid[1]

-You are also given a decent amount of gold for all of your help

-Someone then goes around getting accounts of all these events and putting them together into a (series? of) book(s) that you can then read in the city's library

 

What you now have access to in the city:

???

its good and for the stuff like what you have you have access to would be a smith who would improve your merperson tail and scales and a player home to hide out in and a guard hideout that stops you for being near evil king
