Hello Nexus Members,

 

First of all allow me to introduce myself, i am Nico 38 Years old from the Netherlands.

About me: Business owner, Ex-military, Mad gamer, Happy Father of 2 and Married.

That being said how are you all doing? (I am fine)

 

Alright!

 

So i was thinking about Metal Gear Solid 5 Phantom Pain and as a hardcore fan, i would like to discuss a few idea's that given my military background could spice up the game a bit.

We all know that MGS is a really good game and the vanilla game is "adequate / good" yet it lacks considerable when it comes to AI routines and scripted events, still reasonable tho.

But if you are running around in free roam then after a few sessions you can just kill the entire map without ever being detected or finding yourself in a difficult situation.

This is IMO a death sentence for the single mission & free roam game play. Yet its exactly here where there is a lot to gain. It does not need to be so dull, and yes i am well aware of the limitations inside the game since i know my way around in game modifications, editing and custom content. Granted i do not have experience with MGS and have not looked into creating mods myself for this game.

 

Long story short, Snake has all the support one could wish for, rather it be a buddy, ammo & gear drops, fire support, Intel team etc etc... and is able to be "god".

Yet NPC's don't have have these luxuries they just wait to be slaughtered, and the few bits of support it can utilize is mediocre at best.

Now before i continue let me please mention that i did not look into details if some idea's are technically possible and i would like to ask the mod creators and game wizards here for their valued insights.

 

One of the biggest drawbacks in the game is the fact that while soldiers hide behind cover during a attack, most of them rarely move and rarely pose any real danger to Snake and some being outright DUMB!. And while the mod "infinite Heaven" (Which i use) does change some behavior and is able to up the challenge trough its many settings it is not fully generating a better combat game experience because of the limitations of NPC behavior and the way how vehicles and other enemy assets work.

To counter this there are IMO some ways that can spice things up but it would require providing bases, outposts, vehicles, NPC's with additional options. Below i will list a few idea's that come into mind.

 

Snake has a Intel Team that allows spotting and detecting resources, animals, weather, units and vehicles. On top of that Snake has for example DD which sniffs out targets.

The "enemy" has none of that, patrols are just a bunch of guys and guards are just "soft" targets waiting to meet their maker. So the idea is to give some enemy patrols on foot a "guard dog" that can sniff out Snake and his position, or a device they can carry that would increase their awareness considerable. For example the Walker Gear Autonomous Head (Its Detection, Surveillance capability) comes into mind. Also enemy vehicles could seriously benefit from this since you sneak up their tail and they are just WTF... bye bye and never pose a real danger. Another option that could work alongside these changes is a limited version of the hunted event where surrounding bases provide additional manpower with the aim to aid their comrades in need and to seek you out using a similar search area as a enemy helicopter would do. Another idea is to allow enemy bases and commanders to call in a artillery barrage or gas attack that gives you only 3 seconds before impact a warning either by the sound of screaming rounds coming in or some voice clip that informs you. Another issue is enemy bases, guard/out posts and villages you can just walk in and do the happy dance without ever being challenged, it would be nice to see some of the FOB security devices being used in single player and free roam for example Camera's, Drones (Armed and Surveillance) and IR-Sensors that are being placed at critical places and finally enemy bases sometimes have a M276 Anti-Air G-Gun and very rarely this gun is being used against snake, yet this gun can also benefit from the walker head and turn this into a automated defense and it would be nice if enemies would use these types of defense more often. That said i think that more random "mixed patrols" should roam around and there should be more traffic on roads.

Now given the fact that the "Infinite heaven" mod is a GREAT mod (Kudos to the makers and contributors WELL DONE!!!) it would be FANTASTIC if these changes, options and idea's could be added. Either as a update for the IH mod or as standalone mod that can run along IH.

As i said before i am aware that the game has hard coded limits and i am aware the amount of work that this may require and i am also aware of the fact that some options listed above may be near if not impossible to create hence i ask everyone here on Nexus who has credible experience in MGS game modifications and scripting to voice their opinions and share their experience on these idea's, also if you tried some of the idea's above and you found out that it cannot be done or you noticed something is impossible to do yet you found a way to emulate the same effect trough a different mechanic then please go wild share your knowledge.

The ultimate goal is to combine the communities knowledge and see this mod being done and i personally pledge that i will invest as much time as i can in seeing this happening, but first lets see what you guys think about this whole idea alright?
