Driving me insane

Hi

Ive installed SKSE and Vortex to install jaxonz positioner. Ive successfully added the mod only to now not be able to play the game at all. Ive followed a tutorial that adds the steam.dll file to windows sytem 32 and syswow64 but to no avail. Running the program as administrator doesn't work either. All that happens is the main portal appears..... I hit PLAY and see the steam launcher pop up only for the portal to open again. The game will not launch at all. As the title suggests im ready to give up with this mod and the game

Please help

TIA

Since when are you supposed to put a steam.dll from SKSE into your System32 and syswow64 folder?

What tutorial is telling you to do that?

Some more info is needed.

such as are you playing SKyrim LE or SKyrim SE?

If you're using SKyrim SE, are you using skse64 with it?

If you're using SKyrim LE are you using skse with it?

Thanks for the reply

Im using Skyrim LE and downloaded SKSE from nexus mods. My laptop is 64bit and running windows 7.

After following a youtube tutorial I successfully installed and enabled the jaxonz positioner mod via vortex. The first thing I noticed was the shortcut on my desktop had changed (logo has changed to an "explorer window") I then found skyrim launcher using windows explorer and was greeted with steam_api.dll is missing. Top results on youtube for a fix is to add (after downloading) steam_api.dll to system32 or syswow64 then reboot. Running skyrim launcher now opens the portal but wont execute the game (the portal reopens with no messages)

This is my first ever attempt at modding a game. I just want to be able to place objects in my houses in Skyrim and not have them fall through walls and floors never to be seen again. I installed SKSE as per jaxonz positioner requirements to run the app via the nexus mods run through Vortex. Please understand I am completely new to all of this and know nothing

In order to restore a missing Steam file for Skyrim, all you had to do was right-click on on the game in your library, then pick PROPERTIES, and then pick LOCAL FILES, and pick "VERIFY INTEGRITY OF GAME FILES..." which would've restored it for you

Where did you download the Steam api.dll from?

SKSE isn't available on Nexus Mods, it's only available from Silverlock .org

wytrewidow,

Don't feel bad. I have been modding Skyrim for a few years (LE) on windows 7 with all t he DLC. I have used NMM(Nexus Mod Manager) successfully and liked it very much. That's what I use on my laptop with windows 7. Just a few days ago I got a desktop (windows 10) and tried Vortex. I couldn't use it so I put NMM on my desktop. I downloaded Fores New Idles Skyrim(FNIS) and had to do it manually. I already have Skyrim script extender. When I downloaded FNIS I had to do it manually and when I installed using NMM it did not have the proper name. So I am gonna go back and try and figure Vortex out. Don't feel alone in this.

As for mods, JAxonz positioner is a great mod. I have it on my laptop. Here are a couple of critical mods you will need to mod Skyrim:

01: SKSE (skyrim script extender)-Do an internet search for skyrim script extender. You will see Silverlight. Click that. It will take you to a simple white page. Download from there.

02: FNIS(Fores New Idles Skyrim (on NExus)

If you are going t o mod a game, those are 2 must have mods. Warning: when using mods don't add more than your pc can handle. And try to be sure mods don't conflict.

I know nothing about Vortex at this point so I cannot help you there. But in general, I will be more than happy to help all I can with getting you modding. I remember how overwhelming it was when I first started.

I opened my games library to see skyrim lowered to the "unspecified" section and was unable to and am still unable to interact with it (right click does nothing) so proceeded with the above .

The dll file was from www.dll-files.com and youre right... Ive just googled SKSE to see where I got it from and it was Silverlock.org

More investigation suggests corrupt game files and recommends deleting all game files from "common" and uninstalling and reinstalling skyrim?

When I first started, I only planned on a handful of mods. Literally 5 or 6 at most. I ended up with over 100 on my laptop...lol

Here is a tip for carry weight if you want to carry more:

At the top left of your keyboard, to the left of the 1 key is a ~ key. When in game press it and type this exactly: player.modav carryweight 5000

There may be a space between carry weight, I can't remember but that will add 5000 pounds to whatever your current carry weight is. If your current carry weight is 250 pounds, that will make it 5,250 pounds total. I set my carryweight to 8000 but no higher
