xEdit Quick Conflict Patcher and vortex load order options...

Hey I was just thinking it would be pretty sweet if xEdit had a quick conflict patcher that would find all the errors and conflicts and write it's own patch to make everything work with no conflicts without me having to manually do it. I can see it being an issue if you use it for lighting mods that overwrite each other so the manual way would be best for that, but for weapons and armour if it could automatically find new weapons or armour you have added to your load order re-write any conflicts so all of the mods get merged into one file to make it easier for the load order to know where to put them all.

it makes me wonder why this isn't a thing already ( drop all weapons in a weapon folder and armour into a armour folder that xEdit or Vortex will find and do said patch for you to make everything work neat without all the hard work of making the patches or mergers by yourself and making mistakes. )

this could also be done for other mods to a category folder drop it in, then select the effects you want added (somehow from a manager menu) so there is no conflicts. I have no idea how hard this idea would be to do for vortex but it seems like a good idea to make it more simplistic.

also you should make the load order easier to change by letting us set a number from a box for what plugin is enabled. ( load order: 1 - 2 - 4 changeable by just clicking a box editing that plugins # on the list without using the manage rules and sort plugins button )

or just click and drag to move the plugin in the list to order it yourself manually if you know where everything goes this makes it more user friendly but also keeping vortex sort option the same for the users that like making rules for quick sort.

Maybe my idea could use some more review but a more user friendly way to mod for sure. I really like Vortex compared to NMM it runs a lot better it just could use some extra fine touches to make it a completely awesome do it all program. maybe all you programmers can work together on it to combine xEdit with Vortex and other patchers/mergers out there. I also liked the way loot would sort my plugins for me as well based on a master list maybe this could be done with Vortex as well.

you'd have to approach the xedit developers with the xedit ideas.

for vortex, there truly is no requirement or need to add further methods of sorting mods and plugins and adding more methods would involve a ton more work for no gain and a lot more confusion.

what vortex has now, is more than sufficient and you can adjust any plugin in your load order in any way you like in a few clicks of a mouse. it is amazingly simple to do and gives you absolute and complete control over every facet of your load order.

yeah it works great the way it is, I just feel it would be a lot better if you could number a specific plugin manually with it's interface the exact same way it is just with editable plugin numbers under the load order drop down with the sort and manage options still the same, it would be faster than setting rules to sort them though. as for weapon and armour integration I still strongly think vortex should really really have this with the ability to add these items from a folder, make it's own merged file for these items to add them to the leveled list so you don't have a ton of for example horizon patches in your load order because vortex will combine everything and make it's own injector without using the creation kit at all. so basically you add a new weapon or armour to the folder, you tell vortex, vortex will then remake a new leveled list patch and .esm with the new addition and delete the old files PLUS sort the load order properly.

there are options you can look at such as lock to index which would put a mod into a specific place - why you'd need to do that is beyond me, but it's there.

in terms of setting rules - you don't need to do that for the majority of plugins. you can allow vortex to sort your plugins for you via its interface to loot - that works perfectly well in the vast majority of cases. there are outliers - of course - and those outliers can be controlled with load before/load after rules, or by putting them into groups that will cause them to load up/down the load order as required.

I wanted to move a mod up higher in the load order without so much hassle to get it there kind of, I have to set a rule to move the plugin with the sort which kind of bugs me a little bit but I kind of feel like groups would make it easier to sort out where things on the load order are supposed to be in general because some patches have to load after a said .esp and their master before that .esp like a lot of horizon patches on fallout 4 which do get buggy because they get out dated and you have to find a big patch pack download everything required for the patch and/or patch those with other patches all manually which is kind of technical difficult for me atm it seems like a good idea to have vortex do this automatically for less bugs and more happy players with a easier to use more advanced injection method for modded items with options to point where you want the items to go on all factions or just certain ones kind of like the creation kit but all neatly done inside of vortex.

you need to learn punctuation, because that is just one long stream of words and difficult to take apart. But, here we go, let's see if I can understand your situation.

You have horizon installed, and various patches for it, and you want to place one mod in a particular place in your load order. and that place has to be fairly high up in the load order.

here's what i would do - but bear in mind, i don't run horizon, so i am not familiar with it's load order requirements.

Go to plugins then select Manage Groups

I don't have any groups defined other than the default selection. By default the vast majority of plugins I have installed are assigned to the group 'Default'. I would take the plugin I want to load higher up in the load order, and make sure to change the group it is defined to to any group that is loaded before default. In my Vortex, I can choose one of the following, directly after the DLC group;

Creation Club

Texture Overhauls

Fixes

Vault tec Historical Preservation Society

Underrides

Scrap Corpse Highlighting

I double click the plugin I want to move, and edit the group from default to one of those choices, and that's it. Done.

I have auto-sort enabled, so the plugins are sorted for me, but you can do this manually.

You should see the mod you need higher up in the load order above pretty much everything else and that's it, my job is done. Takes literally seconds.

If you need the plugin to load directly after another plugin, and that's the way it should remain, then I would take the plugin that it needs to load after and do the same to that plugin, so i would end up moving two plugins out of 'default' to any other group, and then, within that group, i would set a load after rule to make sure that no matter what, the mod i am concerned with will load after it's parent mod, and before everything else assigned to default.

Using rules and groups like this is a very clean way to ensure your load order is exactly how you want it and this takes literally seconds to apply.

The only thing you need to be aware of is don't try to load an ESP before an ESM or ESL or an ESP flagged as ESM/ESL because you will get a cyclic rule error.

try it yourself and see how you go. If you mess it up all you need to do is put the plugins back in the default group and resort and redeploy.
