sounds of skyrim (archive size bigger than entire mod. may be corrupt)

So as the title of my post explains , im having some problems with the Sounds of Skyrim mods , specifically in regards to this particular error : archive size bigger than entire mod. may be corrupt.

Now ive been using SoS for a few years now , and never had any issues until today. Also pretty sure ive not encountered this particular error before for any other mods. Now originally i downloaded the 3 SoS mods via steam work shop , and it was during the procedure where the launcher checks subscribed mods that i first encountered the error. I have since tried unsubscribing and redownloading the mods via steam , have tried manually installing the files , and also tried through the NMM. Despite those efforts im continuing to have problems getting them to function. After the manual install i was able to get the Civilization script to activate , but the wilds and dungeons would not respond to the console command , despite the fact that ALL the files were extracted and in place where they ought to be.

Is there any reasonable way i can resolve this? Any possible reasons why those mods would suddenly stop working? I feel like ive probably made my problem worse with all the stuffing around.

have tried trawling through google , but there seems to be very little information directly about the archive size error , at least that ive found , and most of what i found barely made any sense to me. Is there something that primarily causes this kind of error? Is there something that needs to be re-installed , or cleaned up? at this point ive just de-activated the mods, as i dont really understand what the error is actually referring to. Playing skyrim without them is pretty disappointing , as after a couple years using it , ive gotten pretty used to hearing these sounds , and it just seems wrong and empty not to have them now.

Having the same issue here but not with sounds of skyrim... I get stuck on the check run before launching on "Towns and Villages enhanced - Windhelm". Interestingly I can still run the game and Windhelm looks like it always does with the mod. Still would like to fix the error though... it makes me nervous (lost the game to corruption several times and always when steam updated... as it did just before this error!) Do wish they'd stop messin wid mi game!!

Tried uninstalling the mod but error still showed up when the mod wasn't even there so it must be something with Steam itself. This line of thinking is backed up by me reinstating all the skyrim files on my pc with back up copies from last week... so surely it can't be my files??

Anyone any solutions ?

(oh n I verified the game)

Ok so I fixed it (hope it lasts), n thought I'd share what I did...

made a copy of my \SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\Skyrim\Data file,

when to subscriptions and unsubscribed each mod showing the error (yeah I came up with a second one after the first fix which was actually sounds of skyrim civilisation),

then copied the saved relevant bsa and esp files back into the data file.

Went back into the launcher and went into "data files" there to make sure the mod showed, was in the right load order and was ticked.

This cleared the errors.

Hope it helps...

Hi thanks for sharing, just run into this problem today.

But being kind of a noob, i was wondering what you meant by the bsa and espa files?

Thanks in advance!

  • 2 weeks later...

Same error here + additional issue, just to brag and top it off: "Failed to extract plugin from ckm!". It seems to be widespread as I also see it mentioned on the Steam Workshop board for Sounds of Skyrim - Civilization:

https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/comments/81064931

To me it happens for Towns and Villages Enhanced (Dawnstar, Inns, Morthal, Winterhold, Markarth+, Solitude, Windhelm, Whiterun Exterior) and Enhanced Soundtrack (Pt1 - Explore) and Sounds of Skyrim - Civilization.

Havent played for 3-4 weeks but updated Steam a couple of days ago.

Sir ItsDaKoolaidDude mentions a workaround - which works for me also:

Theres both been a problem where the CKM seems corrupted, as well as the "archive size bigger than the mod". However, if you hit play before the data loads up that mod, it still works.
