[LE] How to add Directional Material to container objects

Recommended Posts

I created a container, easy part. The only problem is I need to also add these containers in snowy areas. I am basically replacing some static objects with my own. The problem is that some of these static objects have SnowMaterialObject1P in the Directional Material which is impossible to configure in a container. Does someone have a clue on how to apply a Directional Material on container objects?

No idea. Never heard of "Directional Material". But if all you are doing is replacing a static with a container, you can put an activator box around the static and link it to a container hidden under ground. Thus giving the appearance of turning the static into a container.

You'll most likely have to make a snowy version through the texture or by using the decal shader in the NIF and applying vertex alpha where you don't want the snow to show. You can PM me about the latter being that I am randomly around right now and could talk you through it when I get home in a few hours. Your choice. :)

Nice to see you're still around too Ishara!

Doing this would not be as simple as a Simple "Ctrl + F" to replace all objects in the world. I'd need to change them one-by-one, unless you's have a solution I'm unaware of to replace over 100 static objects this way.

Just an extra note, Bethesda seem to have done the same. I came upon some barels and there seems to be a difference in texture and no Directional material. My guess is that they try to avoid directional material on animated objects. Here are two screenshots of examples in the game. They are not the actual objects I'm replacing, just example with the Directional Material and containers different than their static counterpart.

should be doable with xedit scripts quite easily

I do not want to use any scripts or any additional testures, just using vanilla stuff. I'm looking for a way to maybe change the textures by adding a sort of magic effect on them that will simulate ice formation or another workarrounf I can manage to find using vanilla textures only to let other change that with other mods if they wish.

i think you confuse xedit scripts with papyrus.

xedit is the unofficial silbling of the creation kit. Its a tool and it has script support for automation.

that means you can edit 100s of objects very fast instead of doing it by hand.

this was meant as a solution to your previous question

I could think of 2 variants on how you might solve the issue:

-create a snow mesh for the constainers and apply the new path in the editor (automate with xedit for as many as you like)

or

-use the activator workaround ishara mentioned (you can automate this with xedit as well but it may require more work)
