Can DaZip Contents Go In The Override Folder?

I'm trying to get Qwinn's Fixpack to work with Improved Atmosphere- the description for the first says I'd pretty much have to gut the second.

 

What I'd like to do is unpack the Fixpack's dazip and just set it in a folder lower then Improved Atmosphere and hope for the best. The problem is I noticed everything inside the dazip is in erfs. Can I just dump these in the override folder? The Fixpack also has some audio files in the dazip- can I dump those into the override folder? Or do I have to decompress one or both of those file types?

To answer your general query, sometimes DAzip mods can be unpacked and used in override, and sometimes they can't. I often unpack simple 'item' mods (weapons, armour/clothing...) from their DAzipped packages and use them as overrides, while I'd never do that with something more complex. I always extract the files from the ERFs and install them loose (in mod- specific folders), but the game will use ERFs in override as well; some mods install that way by default. (See: the assets for preset/morph mod Ferelden Models, and for the NPC overhaul Dragon Age Redesigned.)

 

I've never used either Qwinn's or IA, so I can't offer an informed response to your more specific question. Sorry.

But I'm correct in thinking that you can't control "load order" of a dazip unless it's been unpacked into the override folder, right?

If there is a conflict between a file in override and one installed via a DAzip to AddIns, the override file will take precedence.

 

If the two files are both in override, the file that is used by the game can be controlled by using the folder-that-is-last-in-the-alphabet-takes-precedence method mentioned in your first post (setting it in a file that is 'lower'). (More information - and some speculation - on the mysteries of what passes for 'load order' on DAO can be found here.)

Yes, I had read this. My research has shown that Qwinn's Fixpack doesn't play well with Improved Atmosphere because of the amount of content it changes and being a dazip there's not a lot I can do about it. If I can extract it, I can at least put it last so the changes will still take effect. Thank you.

I Have A question Can't you rename an ERF so that it goes last they do go in Alphabitecal Order. Wouldn't say putting a ZZZ in front of them fix that sorry I am really a Newb but just a thought.


Of course you would have to rename all of them for it to work I think.

It works that way for folders in the override directory, but strangely not for sub folders- where it is reversed.

I've read the exact opposite, that files not in folders inside the override directory take precedence over everything.

Rather than debate 'I recall' vs 'I read', I just tested it in-game, in a fresh, otherwise unmodded install.

 

I installed Kirkwall Exports (files in a folder called 'kirkwall_exports'), with the Cousland blue retexture of the female leather Orlesian armour from 'Texture Me Like on of your Orlesian Armours' in a folder called 'zz_texture_me_ TEST', and the white Theirin retexture of the same items loose in the override. This is what I see in-game:

The textures in the last alpha position folder took precedence over the loose-in-override textures.
