Load order sorting is terrible

This is by no means a bad mod manager, sure a bit rough around the edges with UI, but I like it overall. But Dear God, the load order sorting system is HORRIBLE. It needs to go back to the manual movement of NMM but with the sorting function in place, it is very hard to sort a load order manually with Vortex.

why would you sort a load order manually when it does it automatically?

if you head over to vortex support and open a post there and tell people what mods are giving you a problem, it can be sorted in no time - also - as it depends on loot information for its sorting, if a mod is being sorted wrong, drop a line to the mod author and tell them to tell the team behind loot - and that will be fixed in the next update.

easy peasy, lemon squeezy.

Vortex is really badly done. They made it way too complicated. You shouldn't have to go to vortex support for help, and why have a support group anyway? This ain't rocket science it's just sorting mods. Nexus mod manager did that just fine. I can't get Vortex to sort the mods either. It's very frustrating and time consuming.

I'll give you an example; Babes of skyrim needs to be loaded as a "late loader" or you get the black face bug. but LOOT always puts it at the top. The mod author knows this and tells you to move it manually down the list and LOOT has never fixed that problem. NMM was just click and drag, very easy. Now in Vortex you have to identify it as a "late loader" and it puts it lower but not low enough. The problem gets even harder when you are using "Babes" with "Warmaidens" and maybe a Serana replacer. No matter how you try to reasign the mods it always puts babes above those mods. Even tried dragging it down but that dosen't work either. and now I have error messages that I can't clear up. I spent 2 days trying to fix it and the game is unplayable at this point.

are you saying that no other mod manager has a support group? i think you'll be mistaken if you are.

why have a support group? well, my friend, let's assume that you needed a bit of help to get you going, and there was no such thing as a support group - for anything. no-one to guide you, to educate you, to help you overcome an issue, how would we as a species even exist? school is a support group, in work you have different support groups to help you with issues. businesses have support groups to help customers. the reasons for a support group are many and varied. it would be considered very poor indeed if no support existed.

it ain't rocket science, you're right, it's just sorting mods. so let's say you have a mod let's call it mod a and you have another mod, let's call it mod b. neither mod has any kind of description that you can see. how do you install them? remember there's no support here, and you've not done this before. how do you do it? it's not rocket science, but how do you do it and know that you have done it correctly? worse - lets say you havent done it correctly - how do you undo it? what if you simply uninstall the game? what if you format your hard disk and reinstall windows? who's going to tell you that you may have gone too far? there's no support, remember?

you can get vortex to sort mods - all you need to do is enable autosort and it will do it automatically. it really is THAT simple. Oh, hang on, I just provided you with some support. See what I did there? See how helpful that was?

stickaround bub, you'll like this support gig, it's fun. you can ask questions and get answers. a bit like google, only more rounded.

take that mod and assign it to a group that loads after default - bingo - job done in 1 click.

try it. the resolution is quicker than it took you to type out that post. honest.

oh more support, its good, don't you think?

btw if the mod author knows about the loot limitation then he's probably not told the loot team about it - or if he has, he should give them a friendly reminder to fix it. but groups are your friend here. try it and see.

1ae0bfb8 has given you good advice in a support forum providing good advice for all sorts of questions, including load order issues.

To implement his advice, if you want "Babes of Skyrim" absolutely last in your load order, then assign it to the last group in the LOOT hierarchy. If there are other mods in that group, then set a "load after" rule in regard to those mods. You now have a load order placement that won't be lost the next time you use Vortex (with integrated LOOT) to sort. This procedure is really quite easy and has always worked for me.

of course, i realised after i posted that "this isn't rocket science" and why do we need a support team?

personally i help those who need it and those too arrogant to think they don't. to me, they're all in the same box. what box are you in?

Just to be even more specific to your example, do this:

Go to Plugins page.

Double click on Babes of Skyrim.

Under Group Dropdown (these are Loot defined groups) choose Dynamic Patches.

Do this for all your late loaders, then use what Augusta said to set rules within that group.

Doing it is a lot easier than posting about it...

I just got frustrated working on this and only screwing it up further. I was venting, sorry. I wasn't expecting a dissertation on support groups in society though. Anyway I ended up with some looping warnings about "cyclic rules" and I can't move anything now and the game will not start. I think I screwed it up further when I tried to move the mods. So I'm thinking of just deleting the whole thing and just reinstalling vortex and try again, this time I will use what Augusta and rmm200 said. Thanks for the support, group! Really, thanks for the help much appreciated. And yes, support is good 1aeobfb8.
