Vortex insists I'm running it as Admin

I keep getting the "Vortex is not supposed to be run as Admin" warning. I just installed the newest version today, and haven't been able to open it due to this issue.

 

I tried seraching for solutions, but all I can find is people saying it's because of UAC being turned off, which mine isn't.

 

My Windows is 64-bit and I used the default (non-custom) installer in case that's relevant. I'm on a computer with only 1 account.

Have you checked if that account admin or standard (local)?

Control Panel----->User Accounts------>Change Your Account Type

 

Then just look at the info under your name and see if STANDARD or ADMINISTRATOR is checked, DO NOT CHANGE ANYTHING

 

Then hit cancel

No, because I'm using the Admin account on my computer.

 

Have you right clicked on the Vortex.exe or Vortex shortcut and made sure that neither are set to "Run as admin"?

Doesn't this depend on what vortex is checking for? If it checks for the user being in the administrators group that's different to checking the privilege levels the program is run at. I realise that you are running as your admin user so the latter probably applies but personally, I cannot get any warning to appear when switching to my admin user, even r.clicking the icon and choosing 'run as admin' and selecting yes at the prompt, similarly running as admin user with password from my standard user desktop icon doesn't give me a warning. This is win10 so maybe this is a os dependent thing? perhaps related to the install? Qaerixxszhara, try making a new standard user to test.

If you have UAC enabled and you don't get a UAC prompt when starting Vortex you should be ok and can just ignore the prompt.

 

Vortex can't really check if you're running with admin elevation (or rather: it would be super complicated and error prone) so instead it just runs a system command that has no effect but should only be runnable by an admin.

If that operation doesn't report an error, Vortex assumes you're an admin. Because again: Your account is capable of something only an admin should - but that doesn't technically mean your account can do _everything_ an admin can.
