IronsidePlatoon: Troubles with Mutihulks

[1]1.1[1]

Samtha Ironside fired off her large, powerful, battlerifle with a burst of three bullets striking down a hulking massahulk mutigehulk. Ironically it was one of the most common, smallest, kind of mutigehulks. Even as it collapsed, rolling out of sight behind the mound of rubble that it had come charging over, other mutagenic brutes were coming in a frenzy of rage. It was a condition natural to the mutigehulks unlike that of the drugged up, crazy, radraiders.

Mutigehulks were shooting back with oversized pipeguns or oversized crossbows if they were not throwing large metal tipped spears with heavy wooden shafts. Pipeguns existed across the Wasteworld in some areas being smoothbore weapons of both simple and very durable build.

Starmajor Ironside, of a very special rank, helmet radio communicated with the 15 others including the four power armour figure like Robotroopers. “CHC (Central High Command) is going to want more solid data on these mutigehulks.”

CHC would then send on data to GHC (General High Command) though perhaps not all that it had gained.

StarPentagonDC was being occupied by the ArmatechChapter that was already gaining the acronym of DCTAOO (DC ArmatechOrder). For reasons unknown to Samtha, despite her special rank of starmajor, she did not know how the Armatechfollowers had been able to get into the heavily fortified structure so very easily. This was especially true because so many strong factions had previously tried to get into the structure but had failed miserably.

Armatechknight Lieutenant Valiant fired off his own battlerifle, with a single shot, to drive a mutihulk down under cover. Despite their general reputation for stupidity, mindless aggression and suicidal attacks, this was truer for some than others. Pipeguns might have been basic type weapons but they still had to be manufactured as did the body armour that the mutigehulks used.

In the just visible distance there were black dots circling the massive, low hulking, StarPentagon that had largely survived largely thanks to the CentroburgDC's defensive energy dome; it had been only partly successful in protecting the city in a patchwork fashion. The dots were Armatech aircraft.

Valiant responded. “Why do I get a feeling that we are being diverted from being in CitadelDC? Central High Command has been making some disturbing decisions and causing agitation amongst all Armatech ranks.”

It was odd for the officer to bring up sensitive subjects as linked to high command decisions and issues of high security.

Samtha responded. “There are people looking into it. Appears that the PrimeElder is not happy about what has been taking place and he has a voting position on the Central High Command Council itself. There appears to be an effort, taking place, to push him out of the council. I suggest that we focus, for now, on dealing with the mutigehulks.”

Valiant nodded his helmeted head in acceptance.

[1]1.2[2]

Except the mutagenic, high radiation, AENI created monsters had vanished away. Dead bodies, of muties, had been dragged away when they could be.

The Ironsidetroopers examined the dead bodies, that stank though they had yet to decay, and took items to be returned to the ArmatechCitadelDC for closer examination. That meant the Robotroopers carried them in their carry backpacks. They chose a large pipepistol, a much larger pipecarbine, a crossbow, some ammo, some awful 'food rations', a kind of putrid smelling healing paste in a squeeze bag, along with a few other items of which some were surprising.

They headed southwards back towards the StarPentagon, that was far from being new, moving fairly close to the small, fortified, settlement of Rivertown. Mutihuman settlers were dwelling there along with a few mutighoulmans, being 'civilised' mutighouls along with others. They were careful as they threaded through a shopping area with surprising quietness, and grace, for those in assault power armour.

Around them were more buildings, mostly industrial in nature but with some commercial and government ones.

FutureFoodsDC was another hulking building that before Tridoomsday had been a large scale food processing plant focusing on long lasting canned food rations. A large loading yard was visibly dotted with big electric delivery trucks and even bigger atomic motorised roadtrains. All were armoured for in the troubled decades, just prior to Tridoomsday, robberies against such were a big problem.

The squad halted, crouching, when mutihulks emerged from amongst the big vehicles including a large forklift with a pallet on which sat crates most likely full of canned food along with drink. FutureFoods was still famous for its good quality condensed milk, breadbiscuits, condensed coffee-milk, biscuits and much else. In some ways such items were far more valued than they had been in Prewarday times for understandable reasons.

Yet why would mutihulks be interested in such a place when they preferred to eat mutiroaches and other such muticritters along with drinking radwater. They also, it was whispered, fed on the tall, thin, glowshooms at times along with 200 year old radfood.

Shots rang out from what sounded like a powerful Predoomsday type sniperrifle. A big hulking massahulk fell even as the other mutigehulks there opened up on where they guessed the sniper had fired from. Yet they soon halted, going to cover, as another sniper fired at them from another location.

Armatechknight Trooper Dusk, a highly skilled-experienced sharpshooter, spoke. “Something tells me those snipperifles are NewSoviet ones being AK77B2s that were manufactured in Mongoliana as specialised weapons.”

All Ironsidetroopers had been partly chosen because of their 'extra special talents' that were largely inexplicable in nature; hers was the ability to identify noise makers, especially guns, through hearing their sounds. There were such weapons still to be found, in the Central Centralian Wastelands, though they were quite rare.

[1]1.3[3]

There began a skirmish with the mysterious snipers moving from sniping spot to sniping spot. They would only fire if they got a 'clear shot' but their targets were getting increasingly agitated. As the Ironsidetroopers watched, the mutigehulks began trying to get closer to the building. Just what did they want there?

StarMajor Samtha gained, as a powerful psyker, a telempathic communication burst from her sister, StarMajor Stella, of the Armatechorder Security Intelligence Office. The Central High Command Council had been forced to stop keeping data from a large number of Armatecha people. It was revealed that a large supercomputer networksystem, that ran the StarPentagon, had allowed the ArmatechOrder in.

One of the CHC members was a special semiportable supercomputer of true artificial intelligence as was the one running the StarPentagon. AIs could be 'funny' with certain matters such as dealing with others of their own kind and the ArmatechAIComputer had got fearful, perhaps even paranoid to a degree; thus it had tightened up too much on security.

In return Samtha reported on the first skirmish, with mutigehulks, and the current situation. Reinforcements were promised as soon as possible.

More mutigehulks came from the north-west, roughly speaking, in groups. Locals had spoken, darkly, of one ShelterplexDC003 where it was said that numerous mutigehulks dwelt being largely identical to the ones that the Armatechorder, and their allies, had fought in Calibraska. It was beneath Lampshine Mountain being a small mountain in DC also famous for the Lampshine Caverns and their nonhuman inhabitants.

Or so spoke locals who gained information carried by various means across the DCWastelands or from some surprising sources such as Central 3DBroadcasting, ham radio networks and information traders. The DCAT had gained a large base, of information, about DC from the supercomputer networksystem running the StarPentagon being the NPAISCNS. They had yet to get even close to the ultrasecretive Starcomplex at the core of the StarPentagon.

Having gone to ground, IronsidePlatoon SquadAlpha did not try to intervene in the fight but focused on observing, recording and reporting on what was taking place.

IronsidePlatoon WayWanderer: Getting Closer to FutureFoodsDC

[1]2.1[4]

General High Command had ordered IronsidePlatoon Squad Alpha to infiltrate the FutureFoodsDC complex, that was about half underground according to city plans. Truth was it was not the only FutureFoods complex, in the world let alone in the former UNNE, but officially it was easily the biggest. FutureFoods had not only produced its own trademarked goods but a wide range of other trademarked ones and government regulation items. In turn other complexes produced FutureFoods goods. In other words, it was very worth while for the DCATO to know more about what was in it because of the promise of valuable resources that could be exploited.

Having accessed an external utility tunnel, they moved along it and towards the complex proper. There was a scattering of dimly working solidstate emergency lights, fairly stale air, some of the same flowing through wall grates and other features typical of such a space. The power armour figures came to utility doors, at both sides, and carefully opened them. Most were small utility chambers part filled with machinery while some were partly filled storerooms. The mapping was being done in case the ArmatechOrder decided to return, in force, to that underground area.

In one utility chamber were some skeletal remains of humans in working coveralls. They could have died in a whole lot of ways but then a special pilltube was found of government issued suicide pills. There was some radaway, medX and medaway medications there along with some civil issue nutrient pills that the group took along with the remaining Killmequicks.

When they reached a big chamber, with a big heavy powerdoor to the FutureFoods complex, they found there a surprise of eight sets of skeletal remains, the surprise being that they were NewSoviet Infantry Soldiers in fatigues and lots of bodyarmour. Near them were AK99A2 autocarbines that had most likely utilised caseless cartridges because despite signs there had been a gunfight, there were no spent casings; those weapons could use both cased, and caseless, cartridges with some adjusting made. They had been elite weapons of the NewSoviet Military as the bodyarmour was also used by the invading special forces.

If they had been killed by human forces then one would have expected looting of the weapons, and bodyarmour, would have taken place along with other useful items. There was spare ammo, magazines both full and empty, medikits, a single medisting, UNNE MREs, some pocket comics, basic toiletries and other items both military and civil in nature. In the Wastelands everything there was of value and in surprisingly good condition.

Samtha took off one power armour glove and slowly swept her right hand, palm downwards, just above and over one of the remains. Then she did the same with the others. Only after putting her glove firmly back into place did she speak. “They died about three years after Warday when they were attacked by a wraithpire. I only gained a rough impression of it, as is usual, but enough to know it was a powerful version of one of the outworlders. It drained blood, water and liquefied flesh, from the soldiers, leaving behind only desiccated corpses.”

Outworlders were transdimensional intruders not be be confused with alien offworlders or sideworlders from alternate Earths.

Wraithpires had first appeared on Tridoomsday but their numbers had seemed to be slowly-steadily growing since then. Compared to other threats, even more lethal ones, they were rare but they had some very nasty tricks that made it best to avoid them when possible. They were also one of the least known of, or understood, of Postdoomsday threats.

[1]2.2[5]

Why had the NewSoviet soldiers been there at a place hardly classified as vitally important to UNNE federal security? Then again, there could have been a plan to put something in food, and drink, products that would have caused much death amongst UNNE Citizens.

What would explain a wraithpire being there, especially a very lethal one able to quickly kill eight NewSoviet Special Forces Soldiers?

Samtha was the most potent psychic psyonicer there, especially in some ways, but now she seemed surprised. “There are no wraithpire anywhere near here and has not been for at least a century. I do not know this through my own psychic abilities but because a well concealed presence has given me this information. What it is, I do not know, but I do not psysense any threat in it.”

The figure stepped out of seemingly nowhere as a sophisticated cloaking shield was deactivated or so it seemed to be to most of the Ironsidetroopers. He was tall, fairly broad shouldered, and wore an odd outfit as of an OldEarth 1940s private detective of Hollywood movies starring such as Emily Spade and Arnold Manahard. Then again there was MsDetective of 3Dcomic, and 3Danimation, NewEarth fame.

He wore strange, oversized, black sunglasses that were most likely not sunglasses at all thanks to the small green tint to the lens. There were no visible weapons but there was a strong sense that he was very dangerous though not overly aggressive.

He spoke with a calm, hard, voice. “I am MrWalker. Hello, Saraa, it is good to meet you again.”

Samtha nodded. “Good to meet you also, MrWalker! Father will want to talk with you.”

MrWalker nodded. “I just came from the CitadelDC where I met with the High Central Command Council after talking alone with PrimeElder Ironside . The confusion, with AIArmatechComputer, has been well resolved thanks largely to do with your younger sister Elaine. AIArmatechComputer will now better behave itself as an AIsupercomputer.”

There were the older female Ironside Triplets, the middle female Ironside Quintuplets and the younger male Ironside Quadruplets. Elaine Ironside was one of the amazing intellectuals of the Ironside Quintuplets who all suffered physical handicaps but of differing types. Elaine needed a powerwalker to easily move around in, which was being constantly being upgraded but her body was also being fixed up with the advancement of ATtech. She was the computer scientific genius of the five.

Samtha nodded yet again. “We are confronted by incomplete evidence that a powerful wraithpire was here, in this part of the complex, but that was centuries ago. There is also a subtle presence in the background that all of us can pick up to at least some degree, all of us being pyschic psyonicers of at least middling level. It appears to be potent but not threatening.”

MrWalker looked around. “That 'presence' destroyed the powerful wraithpire. There are NewSoviet soldiers surviving here are reanimants that are generally like mutighoulmans. They are more resistant to sunshine, that is to UV, than are all mutighoulish types.”

[1]2.3[6]

Samtha asked. “What is hidden around us that we all psysense?”

MrWalker smiled. “You will need to learn that for yourself. The wraithpire created the reanimants from NewSoviet soldiers that it drained but did not kill. They do not even know why they continue to stay here and fight except that they are following orders of the mysterious entity that destroyed the wraithpire. They have been largely dehumanised. There are at least 100 of them but there are worse threats in the FutureFoodsDC Complex along with that of the arriving mutihulks from ShelterplexDC003.”

Valiant spoke gravely, as he usually did. “What brings them to FutureFoodsDC?”

MrWalker turned to Samtha's second in command. “Food to take back to ShelterplexDC003 for reasons that your ArmatechOrder will have to learn for yourselves. I can give you the clue that there are more than just mutihulks, robots and humans, in ShelterplexDC003. I must go now but we will meet again, in that special way that we have.”

Then he stepped away to vanish seemingly into thin air. If the Ironsidetroopers had not been very used to strange experiences they would have been surprised, or perhaps even disturbed, by what just happened.

Where he had stood was an scoutbot like guidebot that was based on an scoutbot but with multiple extras including extra armour, more powerful fanjets and a doubling of a lasergun to two along with the addition of a multiple type ammo using grenadeshell launcher. Yet it was the data that was in its computer that was most important. It also had other tricks, some of them being related to the data.

They looted some of the gear, of the long dead soldiers, and gave it over to the robotroopers to carry. The guidebot made its way to the armoured powerdoor and began at once to go through an unlocking sequence with its electronic lock; the process went speedily for it had the passcode to get the door to both unlock and to open.

IronsidePlatoon: Infiltrating FutureFoodsDC

[1]3.1[7]

All FutureFood Branches had been designed, and built, to standard industrial standards with some variations to do with their particular commercial purpose. That meant moving along typical hallways large enough to easily take wheeled remoterobotic carriers, people in electric golfcars or even using pedal vehicles to save on electricity.

IronsidePlatoon moved carefully, quietly, along that hallway and past semienclosed golfcars marked, and configured, for general passenger movement, the transportation of trayback carried light cargoe, for maintenance and for security. Interestingly enough none seem to have been used with the game of golf that the original ones were meant for.

There were no signs of death, such as skeletal remains, and it was as if everybody had quietly departed which might have been the case; large numbers, in CentropolisDC, supposedly fled to a massive underground shelter network, as linked to subway stations and other facilities, but nothing of them had been known of them since then. Not many details were known of the CentropolisDC Exodus except that a large amount of useful resources had been taken with them. Had any of those resources been taken from FutureFoodDC?

Except for a light layer of dust the place seemed oddly neat and ordered. Doors were sometimes open or closed but closed ones were not often locked. Storerooms were the most common finds but were filled with goods to be used to maintain the complex and not with either consumables produced by it or ingredients for those consumables.

Matters changed when an area of hallway showed bullet holes in one wall and the dead remains not of NewSoviet soldiers but corporate security guards in heavy bodyarmour of high security calibre. Near them were a pair of elite heavy recoilless autoshotguns that had used caseless shotgun cartridges. Clearly FutureFoodsDC had become a high priority target by organised crime and rebels of different political persuasions if not religious ones; thus they had taken up heavy security most likely with the full blessings of the UNNEFG (United Nations of NewEarth Federal Government).

There was more of the dull 'normality' from then on. There were three offices as once used by security, maintenance, clerical and other employees. 3DDTCs (3D desktop computers) sat on compact multifunction desks. Like the rest of the complex there was plenty of valuable loot there.

A protectbot robot lay tilted against a wall, the heavier armoured-armed cousin to a humanoid securabot having been shot full of holes. Humanoid robots were quite common across the general UNNE but even more so in such areas such as CentropolisDC. Humanoid robots had never come close to being as numerous as wheeled ones they were about as common as tracked, hovering, aquatic and flying ones.

A protectbot? What had needed securing so badly that the corporation did not just settle with the use of securabots that were cheaper, and easier to maintain, than were protectbots? Then there had been the autoshotguns and the heavy security armour, both of hihitech nature. It seemed too much even for a valuable food production complex. So what was the explanation? That is if there was only one of such.

[1]3.2[8]

In the office room, where they found the protectron, they found a hidden chamber behind a secret door and a large filing cabinet that could be slid to one side. The filing cabinet had in it compressed datadisks of datafiles, hard copy folder files, two bottles of good quality whiskey and some holotapes of questionable taste. Most filing cabinets, in the two offices, had only legitimate items in them.

The hidden chamber was very different. It was a luxurious casual meeting chamber with plush carpeting, real leather chairs, a tropical wood coffee table, a big drinks area complete with counter, a high grade holoprojector and much more of very expensive Prewarday kind. To top it off, in three special enclosed bays, behind transparent armoured glass, stood three naked android women of artificially enhanced attractiveness and sexuality. An old question went, was a naked android really naked?

There were small drawers, in an ornate wooden chest, with a wide selection of illegal, and semilegal, drugs including psycho and marijuana. More openly were glass fronted arrays of alcoholic drinks, other drinks and even pristine water.

There was a range of holodisks, disks, books and other published items in a bookcase. In a fortified display cases were sporting collectables, including trophies, antiques such as musket pistols, comicbooks, bobblehead figurines and so much more. There were even bottles of NutroCola Original, Quantum, Atomic, Cherry and even Nuclear.

Clearly secret meetings had been held there most likely with the androids dressed to suit the occasion and the visitors' tastes. The newcomers quickly found hidden electronic surveillance hihitech such as microtech 3Dcameras and 3Dmicrophones.

Thus they soon found a small, cramped, cubby hole of a chamber next to the meeting place where an observer would have sat at a console that had three 3Dscreens and other feedbacks along with elaborate controls.

Perhaps somebody had tried to gather up all sensitive data, before leaving in a hurry, but a datatape was found under the console. The solidstate drives had been cleared but not truly formatted thus leaving some datafiles along with fragments of the same.

The openly legitimate corporation turned out to be a working, profitable, facade to what seemed to be some kind of conspiracy. That was no surprise for the slowly collapsing nationstates, of the world and not just the UNNE, were rife with conspiracies. A great deal of them were petty in nature and-or ineffective while a very few had been far more powerful, reaching, wealthy and influential. There had even been those that had considered themselves to be anticonspiracies. The reasons, behind the existence of conspiracies, had been as been as varied as the number of such operations.

It had been a conspiracy, of experimenting on military prisoners to turn them into supermutants, that had helped to lead to the existence of the early ArmatechOrder in Calibraska. That had been at the FortMartialla but it was after the Exodus, to the deeply underground StarOctagon, that the ArmatechOrder had been formed.

Data flowed across the screens from firstly the datafiles, in the computer storage, than others uploaded to the machine from the datatape.

Armatechknight Corporal Harroc was a generalist trooper but also an amazing hacker partly due to finely tuned psyker abilities that assisted him to be so. “There are some very unlikely bits of data here, that is most unlikely in such a place as this is supposed to be.” He sat before the console.

Samtha frowned softly as she stood behind him, there was no real room to do anything else. “I have the impression that this operation was not so straight forward as feeding the black market. A large part of produced items were going covertly to secret locations that were unlikely to have been their final destinations. Then there is that one, different, destination that appears to be below FutureFoodsDC.”

Which was when shooting broke out in the hallway as Ironsiders fired upon reanimant soldiers in return for being shot at with out provocation.
