Something Wrong w/ Console Command or Toolset?

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone! I'm having a problem that I am unsure as to whether it is something with my Toolset or my in-game console. I followed all the steps in the Toolset item creation tutorial, but when I came to step 2 under Last Steps, I did not see my item's uti file in my toolsetexport folder. The nss & ncs ones were there, I checked the log & it said everything exported successfully w/o any errors. I followed the rest of the steps anyway, & the mod showed up as enabled under Installed Content in the game. I then loaded a save & tried to bring the item into the game by entering the runscriptaa_get_item command (I have the mod that allows you to see what you're typing), but it said "Error, unable to process command", or something to that effect. I even tried a command from Gamespot.com to see if the console would respond to that (used runscriptzz_supercritplayer), but got the same error message. Any ideas as to what could be wrong? I really want my mods to work. Many thanks in advance!

UPDATE: I tried a code from YouTube (runscript zz_addapproval 1 10) for 10 approval points for Alistair & it worked, so I guess the console isn't broken, but when I tried putting in add_mothers_amulet from the mod to make Alistair's Mother's amulet wearable, I got a "Failure, no such command exists" message. ????

The console script should be runscript zz_supercrit player (note the spaces between the words). There will always be a space between 'runscript' and whatever the script name is, so to run your additem script, it would be runscript aa_get_item.

Re the wayward UTI, the toolset can sometimes export files to folders other than the module folder in [user]\Documents\BioWare\Dragon Age\AddIns.

Check in [user]\Documents\BioWare\Dragon Age\packages\core\override\toolsetexport, and [user]\Documents\BioWare\Dragon Age\modules\Single Player\override\toolsetexport; those are the usual suspects... if your UTI isn't in one of those folders, try searching on the file name with your file manager of choice.

Also, exporting scripts can result in the toolset also exporting ginormous amounts of game-breaking garbage, into the [user]\Documents\BioWare\Dragon Age\packages\core\override\toolsetexport folder... anything that you didn't specifically export or place in that folder should be deleted before running the game.

SUCCESS!!!! I actually got a mod I made into the game! I accidentally ended up duplicating Andruil's Blessing, but it has the stats I created & the comments I made, so I can live w/ it! 1000 thanks Sky! (Proceeds to run thru neighborhood in celebration)

Also got a message on my desktop that the graphics engine for the Toolset can't load/access & that I will need to fix this. ???

Hi LadyHonor, thanks for responding. I got this message after I closed the Toolset, something about the graphics engine not working/responding, the DLL and needing to go to the now-defunct BSN to try to fix it. Unfortunately, my cat jumped on my keyboard & I lost the message before I could read everything. I'm not sure if it will appear again, so I'm not sure what it means. BTW, I saw a YouTube video of your expanded Highever Human Noble origin project. How's that going? Good luck if you're still working on it!

Best regards,

If you miss an error message, you can also check the Toolset logs located in the Toolset subfolder of the same name.

Your description sounds similiar to the error message I got after a windows update recently:

---------------------------
Dragon Age Toolset
---------------------------
Unable to initialize the graphics engines. This can be caused by the DLL missing, other required DLLs missing, or the wrong version of DirectX installed.

Run the toolset configuration program and verify your settings or search the toolset wiki http://social.bioware.com/wiki/datoolset to help with this issue.

This toolset must now exit.
---------------------------
OK
---------------------------

As you got the message due to a non responsive system on the closure of the toolset you may have not any problems on a restart of the toolset. Good luck.

For my part I could not fix the problem during the last 2 weeks and will reinstall the toolset.

Yes, YaraC, that's the message I've seen sometimes when I exit the Toolset. It's still working just fine; I've opened it up multiple times w/o incident. So far I've only created some custom items (Sky, if you're reading this, thanks so much again--I'd never have even gotten this far w/o your help! :D ) & have yet to utilize anything involving graphics. Thanks for reaching out & sorry you had to reinstall--hope this the Toolset works better for you this time around!

Best regards,
