vampirebloodlines Buggy section in the Warrens

During the quest where you have to find the nosferatu, after defeating the ugly dude for the first time, you get to a point where you have to release some emergency valve that sucks you in and leads you to a section where you have to swim to a ladder or you'll get chopped to pieces by some spinning blades.
I just can't get past that point, I get automatically dragged towards the right if I don't move, and no matter how much I try to make my character go to the left, I never get close enough to reach the ladder, if I manage to get closer at all.
