Vortex was working alright with my home connection, but here in college I get this error and cannot login.

Although I have no idea how certificates work, I feel this information could be useful: my college asks us to untick 'Verify the server's identity by validating the certificate' in the adapter options.

Can I do anything from my side to fix it, or is it just an issue with the kind of network connection I have? Any help is appreciated.

Certificate issues are normally caused by tampering with the Windows default settings. I suspect this was done intentionally by your college. It's not something you'll be able to fix without speaking to the IT department.
