Never tried modding myself, bit confused

Hello SSE modding community here I am again. Still have no idea if this is the correct forum to post on for my questions (my last question here).

I've never modded anything myself, but I would like to start. I'm a bit confused because, and embarrassed to admit that, I don't know exactly...*how* to save a mod? What is a mod!?? How do I know that a mod has been made by me, where do I find my mod, how do I add everything together as one mod and upload it to this site? So I'm feeling like a bit of a lost cause to myself and I can't find any video tutorials or forums that elaborate on this. My problem is I'm really not a technical person. The most advanced software I've messed with was a free trial of Sony VEGAS. But I'm a self-taught digital artist so I'm not as concerned about eventually making objects on Blender or whatever.

What I want to do is change the Forsworn race in Skyrim, and add a playable Forsworn race for the racemenu. It's a project that will take a while to get started on. I think I need to update each Forsworn NPC individually, and then add the playable race (which seems to be less of a headache); and also recreate their weapons and homes, etc; but what I'm fumbling on mentally is how I'm supposed to package all of that up into a file? I'm imagining I'll be replacing vanilla files with the CreationKit, and how do I save all those changes into one uniform idea? I..don't really get it. I seriously apologize for this being so juvenile..

If any of you are understanding me and can reach out, with tips or resources you know of, I'd much appreciate it. Thank you!

This will get you up and running for both "oldrim" and special edition. Note that it contains creation kit download/install info for both versions, so make sure you're getting the right one from the right place. When you've got a plugin set up and ready to mod, click the "return to tutorial hub" tab, and you can see a list of the more common jobs. Level design and creation of actors and companions will be valuable to you, whether designing new homes or new dungeons. You'll need to understand things like snap to grids (to make walls, floors, doors, etc., fit each other properly) and navmesh, at some point. There are a lot of other tutorials not listed, such as this one

which you can find with the search box, in the upper right corner. (In that particular one, some of the download links for GIMP and other programs may be too old. May be better off googling them for newer links.)

I am one of those learners, who needs to be able to keep a reference open, so I can follow it step-by-step, which is why I prefer these tutorials. There are times, though, that seeing it done helps a lot. For that, I use youtube, most commonly Darkfox127's tutorials, but there are also some from Bethesda themselves (navmesh is good) and Elianora, which have helped me greatly.

Though he focuses more on installing mods and taming conflicts, a look at Gamerpoets newest videos will only help you. It will cover things like LOOT, Wrye Bash and xedit, all of which can help you in creating mods.

Hope it helps.

Hmm I must have not seen that Creation Kit has its own wiki/Tutorials, but I guess that makes sense.. & thanks for the YouTube rec's as well! (I tend to learn better through video so checking YouTube has always been my first choice. I've seen some of Darkfox's videos already, even!) I've not come across anything about Wrye Bash before so I'll check that out!

Hopefully Creation Kit's wiki & these YT channels will be the answers to my question. I'll keep this thread open just in case, anyway. Thank you both!
