Skyrim "Reinstalled" Mods Issue

Ok so I was messing around with an ENB, and ended up needing to get a new Skyrim.Ini file(deleted old ENB needed new ini). When I went to open up Skyrim using launcher, it said the game was uninstalled, weird but whatever. So I decided to "reinstall Skyrim" on steam, in reality I think it only read the local files and added nothing as far as I'm aware, could be wrong. However it all goes down hill after that, after getting the ini files, I opened it from SKSE thinking it was business as usual. However, when I loaded up the game it gave me the "content missing" warning, first sign something was wrong. When actually getting into the game half of my mods were missing like armors, followers, etc. So I looked around the mod manger for a bit, which still said everything was installed, and found that all my plugins were disabled. So I turned them back on (no specific order if that matters). Which seemed to fix the problem, but not everything the same anymore. Script lag is somewhat of a thing in my saves now, and mods which I used to install from time to time to have fun with and later uninstall seem to crash my game when I go to certain areas now(I'd load up a previous save when I was done). And when ever I'm redeploying mods it takes a lot longer than it used to with the same mods(specifically during pre-deployment and post-deployment) and the NMM says external changes have been made to: "FNIS Data(default)" and that 60 different files were apparently changed.

Sorry for the long post but I wanted to be as detailed as possible in case it would help, As of right now I'm kinda nervous to make any real progress in the game in case it corrupts my save a few hours later. I'm honestly not sure how to deal with this, I want to continue but I'm worried something changed that I'm not seeing, especially with the "external changes" part. So any suggestions on what I should do or anyone with similar experiences who can help me?

Your load order was reset by reinstalling Skyrim. Vortex did not do that.

I would suggest you try running a purge, then deploy all your mods again from scratch.

Oh ok thanks, one last thing could you tell me how you go about purging? I'll update once every things done.

Ok, so I purged the mods and redeployed after, but now I'm more nervous. NMM still notifies me that external changes have been made to FNIS data(default) but now instead of 60 files being changed, its now 103 files. I decided to go in game again to see if maybe my mods would work again but they still result in CTD (I have a follower located in dragons reach and if install that mod now and try to get to Dragons Reach it results in a CTD). So what are my options, should I just go and reinstall Skyrim and reinstall every mod from scratch or is their a better less time consuming alternative? Regardless its kinda of annoying because my chances of saving my save no matter what seem to be getting slimmer.

Ok, at this point I'm pretty sure my saves unsalvageable, I've tried purging and redeploying, even reinstalling all the mods from scratch but it seems like at this point the only thing I can really do is cut my losses and reinstall the game. If anyone has any ideas on what I can do I'm all ears but otherwise, I'm pretty much screwed thanks for the suggestions so far.

I hope the NMM you used there is just a typo, and you really mean Vortex.

We can't help you with NMM problems here.

You never need to reinstall your game..

Purge all your mods in Vortex, then clean your game directory. Delete anything not installed by Bethesda.

Validate your game using Steam. It will also replace anything you deleted by mistake.

Install SKSE using the instructions.

Open Vortex and Deploy. That installs all of your Enabled mods.

Note that FNIS writes to FNIS Data every time you run it. That is as expected. Check for FNIS error messages.

  • 2 months later...

i just purged all my mods and fnis related mods didnt get reinstalled properly... i had to reinstall stuff like sexy move and pcea2 again after purging and then running the deployment, i saw a bunch of files get deployed but fnis hit errors with my config as many animations were missing and behavior files were missing... now i am thinking all my mods are not installed properly and now i have to reinstall each one... so much for a mod organizer... if i hit purge it should deploy everything again on next deploy and yet it didnt... you need to actually reinstall the mods all over again
