Any time you remove a plugin from your current play-through "load order" you risk corrupting your save game files. This is because they typically store information there as to the state of their variables and quests. If you picked up a unique (non-vanilla) item added by a mod, that item (like any item you pick up) is stored in the save game, but also requires the plugin it came from to be available as that item's "source records". In the case of "body replacement" mods, especially if they use a "custom race", it is highly likely you will have to start over if you can't switch back to a vanilla race first. Think about it: all those character related meshes and textures are spread all over your saves. Hence the general advice to never remove a plugin from your current game.

What I do when I install certain types of mods is to first make a named save usually with the name of the mod, then I know where to go back to if there are problems when I remove the mod, it's a good habit to get into.

Have to tried to load an earlier save or starting a new game? it's worth trying just to be sure it's the same and not the game.

No because you'd be adding the mods to a clean save, you won't be removing anything, just don't enable the one that broke everything and make sure everything that mod added is removed, meshes, textures, everything.

And by "Clean Save" he means you follow the procedure laid out in the 'Clean Saves' section of the wiki "FNV General Mod Use Advice" article.

When you CTD attempting to start a "new game", it means you have a problem with your load order (or the basic game requirements, but as you had been working fine prior to messing around with your mod mix that is unlikely).

Please see the 'Vanilla Load Order' entry in the 'First Timer Advice' section; and the 'Common Game Problems' section of the wiki "FNV General Mod Use Advice" article.

If the problem persists, then see either the 'Solutions to Starting the game problems' or the 'Solutions to "Crash To Desktop" (CTD) problems' sections in the wiki "Fallout NV Mod Conflict Troubleshooting" guide.

I recommend anyone read the entire "FNV General Mod Use Advice" article to understand the differences between this game and others you may have experience with; especially if this is your first attempt to play a modded FNV or it's been more than a year since you last did so.
